Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue

Reviewed By Locksley9 - Niagara Falls, Canada

Out for a planned car club run and arranged to stop here for a visit and talk about their facility. Our hostess, Sharon, welcomed us with open arms and lead us through the facility talking about the horses, ponies and the few other animals on sight. She explained the events they participate in and the how and where and why they hear about animals needing rescue. They not only attend many of the local fairs but take some of their smaller horses on hospital visits. All of our club members were absolutely enthralled at the facility and the work they do. Last Chance relies on volunteers and use donations to help keep operational. The volunteers were as thrilled with our classic cars as we were with the work they do.

Zoo de Granby

Zoo de Granby is one of the major zoos located in Canada and North America’s northeast. It is home to nearly 1,500 animals from over 225 different species.

Visited the Granby Zoo in August 2017 with our two children (age 7 and 9). They had a blast. So much to see - definitely recommend buying the two day pass if you intend to also go to the water park because there is too much to see in just one day. The kids loved seeing all the animals and, while there's alot of walking, it's not as much as at the Toronto Zoo. The water park was a welcome chance to cool down after a long walk around the Zoo (kids couldn't get enough of the wave pool!). While I agree with other comments re. the price fo the food, there was a special for dinner after 5:00 p.m. which helped. Also, if your family is really organized (ours is not!), lots of people brought coolers / wagons and had their own picnics (lots of places to sit). The only negative would be that the amusement park section of the Zoo is really for very young children. The only 2 rides for older children were the rollercoaster and pirate ship, both of which you had to pay extra for. Go for the Zoo and water park, if you end up going to the amusement park, that's a bonus.

I recently went on the VIP Experience at the BC Wildlife Park. My sister and I loved going around the bobcat and wolves enclosures to hide the food, and got some great pictures of the animals in action. We did not get up close interactions with the animals, but we did get to go into their enclosure. My grandparents use a walker, and were able to walk around the park with relative ease, and even got to ride on the train. The only thing I would have wanted was more information on the animals at their enclosures. I would highly suggest going through the VIP Experience and asking lots of questions.

Canadian Polar Bear Habitat

There is no other place in the world like the Canadian Polar Bear Habitat. It offers the most space in the world for polar bears in human care, all while providing unique research opportunities for polar bear specialists. The Habitat is currently home to Ganuk, Henry, Inukshuk, and Eddy, who could not survive without human help. These four bears have 24 acres of pristine, subarctic and boreal terrain to roam, including a 10-acre lake. The best time to see the bears is usually in the mornings when they are at their most active. Since the bears have as much control over their environment as possible, they choose when and where to eat, swim, sleep, or explore. You may have to be patient to get the best views, but they’re worth it. The Habitat offers daily talks with Animal Care Staff to provide guests a chance to speak one-on-one with the people who take care of the bears. While you-re on-campus, check out the Heritage Village (seasonal), the Snowmobile Museum, and the Gift Shop.
