You can eat very well—and very cheaply—in Taipei. The restaurants may not look posh, but the quality of the food is superlative. And there’s a huge variety of restaurants—in addition to local Taiwanese specialties, you’ll find regional cuisines from all over China, as well as great Indian, Japanese and even Italian options. Just make sure to leave some room for snacks—street-vendor food here is addictive.

It's called Qixing Mountain, or Seven Star Mountain, and not just because it's Taipei's tallest (and thus closest to the stars) but because those who make it to its peak are treated to an extraordinary view of the seven peaks surrounding Taipei city. The trail is moderately steep but absolutely worth the climb as it passes through dense forest, grassy fields and volcanic vents that give the area a genuinely magical beauty. We'll stop along the way to rest, stay hydrated, and take photos of the surrounding landscape and the unique creatures (colorful lizards, birds with amazing plumage and more) calling the mountain home. After reaching the main peak, we’ll continue along the trail to the eastern peak, which offers beautiful views of its own before heading back down to the entrance for the ride back into Taipei.

Taiwan is a small island with lots to see. Many people would be inclined to hire a car and drive themselves, but this is not always a good idea in Taiwan. Taiwan is mountainous, it's topography is rarely easy to follow. Therefore, arranging a tour is worth considering. Our tour guide Gina did a great job showing us Dadaocheng! She was able to seamlessly juggle between addressing the Canadian guests in English as well as my parents, who spoke Mandarin. While we had been to Dadaocheng several times before, it was always brief and singleminded, with the purpose to buy or eat something. This was the first time we had a leisurely stroll through the area, and Gina shared many interesting details about the architecture as well as led us to explore new shops that we would have never thought to visit. Was a great time facilitated by a great guide!

Nothing is very far from anything else in Taipei, which makes it a great place for walking. The National Taiwan University Hospital MRT Station adjoins the notable 2-28 Peace Memorial Park. Our party of 5 traveled to Taipei in November and we went on a 4 day private tour with Justaiwan Tour. I worked with Max to plan the trip and he was extremely patient in answering all my questions and worked with me to modify my itiniaries. Warren was our tour guide and he was very accommodating, going out of his way to make sure that we had a good time. He was even willing to adjust his work hours and worked longer on certain days so that we can keep up with our itineraries. The tour company and Warren were very responsive; they made us feel like we had a family in Taipei who's always watching out for us to make sure that we are safe and have a great time. I reccomended the tour company to all my family and friends and will definitely contact them again when I return to Taiwan.

Ride a bicycle from Ruifang to Hou Dong, and follow the railway. The river slowed down. In the past, it was an important mining area in Taiwan. Hou Dong is not only a cute cat, but also has many precious mining history and memories. The footsteps seem to embark on a time machine to understand the historical memory that really belongs to the monkey cave. Culture, and stories

What a great day we spent with Judy. She is knowledgeable, personable, easy going, and very importantly, has a keen sense of humor. We customized our tour to not only include food which was excellent, we also had her show us some Taipei neighborhoods and markets that are not on the usual tourist trail. If you want to have a fun experience that you'll always remember and will exceed your expectations choose the Taiwan local Judy! PS. I am not usually a donut fan but you have to make sure she takes you to the Taiwan donut shop. Awesome!
