Iwate Prefecture (岩手県, Iwate-ken) is a prefecture in the Tōhoku region of Japan. Located on the main island of Honshu, it contains the island's easternmost point. The capital is Morioka. Iwate has the lowest population density of any prefecture outside Hokkaido. Famous attractions include the Buddhist temples of Hiraizumi, including Chūson-ji and Mōtsū-ji with their treasures, Fujiwara no Sato, a movie lot and theme park in Esashi Ward, Oshu City, Tenshochi, a park in Kitakami City known for its big, old cherry trees and Morioka Castle in Morioka City.

Ichinoseki City, the southernmost area of Iwate Prefecture, is located between Sendai city and Morioka City. You can make a day trip from Tokyo as it is only about 450 km from the main city. You can ride a Shinkansen (bullet train) from either Tokyo or Sendai city. The tour will start when you get off the train at Ichinoseki City where a local guide will be waiting for you.

(1) Meet at Morioka Station. Chef and owner Yuichi Suzuki is waiting for you in the water square in front of Morioka Station. (2) We will pick you up at Fish Restaurant (Suzutoku) about 20 minutes by car from Morioka Station. It is also possible to guide you to a famous historical café with a connection to Kenji Miyazawa during the transfer. (3) When you arrive at the fish restaurant, the fisherman will show you the fish demolition scene. (4) You will experience using a Japanese knife to handle small fish such as horse mackerel. (5) Please make sushi. This little museum was a precious moment to share with son after reading The Little Prince this summer. The place is special crafted and the gardens are well kept. The restaurant has delicious food. The museum has English placards. Parking is free on site.

【OUTLINE】 Wanko soba is a unique regional cuisine that is served in bite-sized portions in small soba bowls. You can enjoy eating as many of these little bowls of soba as you please. It is said that the origin of Wanko soba is the soba that was served by the Hanamaki farmers to a samurai lord who was traveling to Edo. You will be able to enjoy this soba like the samurai lord did wearing a traditional Kamishimo apron. Your feast begins with the sound of a Japanese taiko drum, and you will see how many of these soba bowls you can finish and stack up before you give in. On March 11, 2011 at 14:46, the powerful earthquake in Japan occurred 70 kilometers off the Pacific coast of the Tohoku Region. Approximately 30 minutes later a devastating tsunami struck the Sanriku Coast. Taro-district is located in the middle of Sanriku Coast. A local resident who experienced the disaster in Taro takes you around Taro-district. You are walking through Tsunami struck area including the massive breakwater and Tsunami memorial building Taro-Kanko hotel. You certainly feel the spirit of 'never surrender'.
