The 10 Best Tours in Dresden, Saxony

April 24, 2022 Jacquiline Darosa

On the banks of the lovely Elbe River, the German city of Dresden is lush and green, filled with forests and gardens and parks. The city is rich with cultural and artistic history; the great operatic composer Wilhelm Wagner debuted a number of works here in the 1800s and, today, an independent light opera company keeps the classical art form modern and fresh. Culture vultures will love the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and Grünes Gewölbe museums, and architecture buffs will salivate over the mélange of styles reflected in the cityscape.

We went on this tour on Tuesday 25th August. We were picked up by Honza and had the whole tour to ourselves. The trip from start to finish was brilliant. Honza was an excellent tour guide, very friendly and chatty :) The tour itself is breath taking and very much worth the money. This is an experience of a life time and everyone should do it. Highly recommend doing it with Bohemia Adventures as to try and do it solo would be extremely challenging. The lunch was absolutely delicious and the staff in restaurant are very friendly. The restaurant itself is extremley unique and lovely decorated inside. The boat trip was very fun and very different. The tour guide on the boat spoke Czech so Honza kindly translated it and added in his humour. I would highly recommend this company and the trip as it was the best trip we have done in a very long time. Thank you for such a great day with amazing memories and photos!

You will go through the main sights of AltStadt in 2h. Our guide showed us the main sights of Altstadt. She was British and spoke slowly enough for a group of many different Nationalities to understand. The atmosphere of this tour was highly relaxed and she made us feel welcomed. We really enjoyed learning about History of Dresden and our guide made History alive through little stories that she told (my wife described as “gossip”) and she was highly knowledgeable: when we asked two questions off-piste about the significance of artefacts et the colour of buildings, she told us two more stories! The tour lasted 2h but we did not see the time pass! Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a great evening with many creative riddles both online and offline in the dark wintery Dresden. The team was friendly, helpful and easy to approach, and the materials and tools included in the game were great! The gameflow was well done, there was little risk of getting entirely stuck at any one point, and the only penalty for asking for help or skipping a riddle entirely was losing some points - you will still have the full opportunity to play the quest to an end, although you may not make it to the leaderboard. Great fun for the price :)

I thought this tour was pretty blah-didn't learn much, not very fun. The drinks that were included was 1 strange shot in an empty bar and another strange shot on a street corner. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this. Perhaps with a different guide it would be much better.

I had an amazing time with my guide Sofia, she has very good english skills and LOT of knowledge about the city. If you are in Meissen, go for the Stadtkirche (central market place) and ask if you are allowed to climb the tower. Currently, the tower is under renovation so please ask in the Tourist office opposite of the Stadtkirche for the key. You've to pay 2 EUR and then you can climb up the tower. There are several levels to climb: 1st the stone steps, 2nd a wooden stair, then the higher you climb at last a tiny ladder but you'll be awarded with a fantastic look over Meissen. See it yourselves and report……. :-)
