Sri Krishna Temple

Diamond studded statue of Lord Krishna inside the sanctum sanctorum. There will be lenghty queue of devotees, so be prepared to spend considerable time. Once inside, it's good to know that no one pushes you and you're given enough time to pray and take a good look at the lord. Suggest to wear decent clothes. Avoid shorts. After the darshan, its strongly suggested to have the prasadam in the form of annadaanam. It was an amazing experience. We were lucky to get the darshan and prasadam and get the blessings of an old priest in the temple.

This is located about a couple of KM from Udupi. Island is located in the Arabian Sea and you need to get into a barge/Boat for reaching this place. Island consists of beautiful Rock Structures and extensively used by the film Industry. In some of the locations, the rock structure is so beautiful and it looks like the Lava is coming out of the earth and just overflowing or dripping. If it is developed properly, this could be developed as a first class tourist spot. Nevertheless it is a good place to spend an evening.

Chandramoulishwar Temple

Reviewed By sudhibhushan - Bangalore

Chandramouleeshwara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located right in front of Sri.Krishna Mutt temple.
This temple is said to have been built after the construction of the Anantheshwara Temple. As per the Literary work Madhwa Vijaya, this temple was known as Moodu Devalaya as it lies to the east (moodu) of Sri Anantheshwara temple, the oldest temple in Udupi.
As per the legend, moon was cursed by Daksha (his father in law) to lose its brightness for not giving equal attention to all his 27 daughters (27 stars). The moon and his wives prayed at the Chandramouleeshwara temple at Udupi, creating a linga. Pleased with their prayers, Lord Shiva restored the moons shine.
The word Udupi was derived from the combination of the Sanskrit words "Udu" meaning "stars" and "Pa" meaning "lord." Udupi thus means the land of the "lord of the stars,"-Moon. Since moon (Chandra) did his prayers to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings the deity was called Chandramouleeshwara.
This temple is at a lower level (about 6 feet below ground level) and one has to climb down a few steps to enter the temple. Despite this height difference, this temple has never been flooded.
It is believed that this "Swayambu Linga" changes color thrice during the day; black in the morning, blue at noon and white at night.
Even to this day, the prospective Paryaya Swamiji visits Chandramouleeshwara temple before ascending the Paryaya throne and then proceeds to receive darshan of Lord Anantheshwara and Lord Sri Krishna.

Ananteshwar Temple

Reviewed By sudhibhushan - Bangalore

Anantheshwara temple is the oldest temple in Udupi and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located next to the the Sri Krishna temple in Udupi.
There are many legends connected with this temple:-
It is believed that the father of Sri. Madhvacharya was a priest in this temple and that his parents had prayed to the deity for blessing them with an offspring. Madhvacharya is believed to have taught his disciples in this complex. It is believed that Sri. Madhvacharya disappeared in this temple during penance. The devotees light lamps in the place where Sri. Madvacharya is believed to have disappeared.
Udupi was known as Sivalli in the old times. As per the legend, Sage Parasurama after redeeming land from sea, crowned his devotee Ramabhoja as the king of this land. Ramabhoja performed Ashwamedha Yaga here and while ploughing the land prior to the Yaga, killed a snake accidentally. To redeem himself from this sin, he made a silver peetam with images of snake carved on it. Hence the place acquired the name Sivalli or Siva-belli. The king installed a Linga of Ananteshwara . Lord Parasurama is worshiped in Linga swarupa in this shrine.
Another legend is that this temple was built by Pandavas overnight during their visit to Udupi. The temple is built by joining rock slabs connected by limestone plaster.
While the deity installed in this temple is that of Lord Shiva, the Vaishnavites worship the image as both Shiva and Vishnu. What one sees in the sanctorum is a Linga. However, the idol taken in a procession during the festivals is that of Lord Ananthapadmanabha. One could also observe Sankh/Chakra markings on the entry gate. From all these we could infer from this that this temple is the abode of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
The 40 feet high Deepa / Dwaja sthamba outside the temple is a unique landmark. Devotees light this lamp with oil as an offering.
As per the customs followed, one has to visit this temple before entering the Udupi KrishnaTemple.

Kodi Beach

I did not go to Kodi beach but Delta point. It comes after driving though a narrow stretch guarded by the sea on one side and back waters on the other side. The road was in good condition but very narrow (I saw buses on that route), entire stretch will be around 4 KM and there are lot of people living on the strip. To enjoy the view, you will need to climb up on rocks (government has laid them to protect the land), I would not recommend this place with small kids. Overall a nice experience, we also spotted few boats returning. There are no dedicated parking space at the Delta point, you will need to park somewhere else and walk. There were not many people when we went, it was easy for us that way.

Kudlu Falls

Reviewed By BantakalDotCom - Udupi, India

As you cross the road which goes to falls, at first 2km you feel like everything is good. But it's just 15km road which takes 1 hours to reach! Not because it's a hilly area, just because road it worse, or you can say there is no road (80% out of 15km) After 15km, from ticket counter, you have to walk inside jungle for around 1.5km.
We visited this Kudlu falls in weekday on Thursday. We reached there around 12:15pm. There was like 5-6 people only. Entry time starts from 9am till 3pm. Entry ticket cost Rs 50 for indians, Rs 25 for kids, Rs 100 for foreigners. Parking fee is Rs 15 for two wheeler, Rs 20 for Auto Rs 50 for car/ jeep etc, Rs 100 for bus. Taking food, water bottles, smoking or taking cigarettes and alcohol is not allowed. Getting into water and swimming is not allowed !!! (as per rules posted)
Now after going there, If there is no crowd, then i'm sure, you will forget the worse road by which you came by. Because falls and place around is like heaven on earth! Amazing falls and rock formation around it. If you are natural lover, then this place is must visit!
My suggestion:
Option 1: Take a bus which goes to someshwara or to agumbe from udupi or from Manipal bus stand between 6 to 7am. Take a ticket by saying 'Seetha nadi or Kudlu Theertha. Entry gate or cross road to the falls is 7km from hebri. Get down and start walking 15km. It's worth walking there than going there by two wheeler or by car or bus. Very natural place surrounded by jungle and hilly view! You will reach ticket counter around 9-10am. Then again 1.5km walk inside the jungle and. you can stay there till 2-3pm
Option 2: If you want to go by some kind of transport then find a Four-wheel drive vehicle...
