Absolutely lovely place to explore by foot or by car. Had to keep stopping and marveling at so much wonderful scenery. St Joseph's Church is really worth a visit, full of colourful modern anti war paintings.

I have visited Fonda fish farm several times and it has always been great experience. Farm visit with kayaks and SUPs, lots of interesting information and great degustation of their fresh fish afterwards, accomplished with a glass of Malvazija is definitely always a good choice.

Kozjak Waterfalls

Reviewed By 2fromTX - San Antonio, United States

We walked the trail from Kobarid to this site several times while we stayed in this area, and enjoyed it each time. I think we were fortunate to be able to go when it was not crowded, as the walk to the waterfall through the wooded path were scenic, peaceful, and quiet, and as enjoyable as the short visit to the falls themselves. There is a 4 euro entrance fee for adults, less for children, and after talking to the very pleasant people working the small booth, it seemed reasonable to help maintain the site -- i.e. the metal bridges built to replace the old slippery stone ones. It's a unusual waterfall as the water streams down through a crack in the rock surface above to a crystal pool below.

Tartini Square (Tartinijev trg)

What was once part of the harbour is now a beautiful town square full of shiny white marble. At the centre stands the statue of Giuseppe Tartini - the famous violinist, bon in Piran. The square serves as the mid point between the harbour below and the church above. A great place for a quiet beverage at any time of the day.

Piran Town Walls

Reviewed By ElizabethG372 - Durango, United States

The walk uphill is absolutely worth it. Walking on this historic segment of the city wall not only imparts a sense of history, but it also provides great views of the historic town. Reasonably priced and a must for visitors. By walking a little farther uphill from the walls, we found a beautiful stone-paved walkway back down into town. The little cafe by the entrance has restrooms, and provided a nice place to stop for beverages after our tour of the walls.

Parenzana

This cycling path connects many coastal cities and towns of Slovenia and offers some spectacular views over Piran and Izola. Between Portoroz and Koper are two climbs, but easy to manage also for people with less experience of cycling. We did it with kids and it was great - kids really loved driving through tunnels.

We loved this trail. We cycled along the Parenzana during an entire day and enjoyed every single bit of it. The landscapes that you will see are diverse and gorgeous: views of Izola, vineyards, the sea, ... You even get to go through tunnels. You can also leave it to take another trail to get to Piran. A must-see if you stay in Slovenia. Enjoy!

Koper Cathedral and Bell Tower

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the location of a former ancient building - a Roman basilica. The history of the Cathedral goes back to the 12th century, when the city acquired its own diocese. Today's front combines Gothic (the lower part) and Renaissance styles (the upper part). The Cathedral keeps numerous treasures: the big altar painting "Madonna with Child on the Throne and Saints", painted by Vittore Carpaccio in 1516, the stone sarcophagus of Koper's patron saint, St. Nazarius from the 15th century, etc. Town tower in Tito square, once romanic forticication, became a bell tower in 15th / 17 th century. It houses one of the oldest bells in Slovenia, dating back to 1333. From the panoramic point (43 metres) you can see the nearby and distant surroundings of the city Koper.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, built in the 15th century in the Gothic style, was later completed in the Renaissance style. In the 18th century, the interior was enriched in Baroque style. It houses many valuable works of art by Venetian masters, including Vittorio and Benedetto Carpaccio, Antonio Zanchi and others. In its treasury, the cathedral also holds a number of valuables, including a Byzantine ivory chest ( 9th to 12th centuries), a chalice and a large monstrance (card) from the 15th century, bust of St. Nazarias and the antiphonarium of Koper miniaturist Nazari (Nazario da Giustinopoli). On the facade of the cathedral lean the city tower. It was part of a Romanesque fortress that dates from the 15th century to 17th century. Later it has been transformed into a bell tower and today is a striking vantage point offering a magnificent view of the entire Koper Bay and the nearby hinterland.

We arrived at the Grand Casino to a welcoming attendant who checked us in. Upon entering, we were greeted by the floor manager and offered drinks. We were looking primarily for slot machines and there were many to select from. While playing, the floor manager gave us souvenir key chains and a deck of custom playing cards. We aren't big-time gamblers and went to the casino to have an enjoyable night out and much to our luck, the slot machine we played kept giving us small but consistent winnings. It was fun and exciting for us! At the end of the night, as I was going to ask the reception to call a taxi, they offered their car service to drive us back to our hotel. We were so delighted! We walked away with nice souvenirs and 50EU in winnings! And overall, it was a fun and memorable evening. Thank you to the casino staff for your kind attention and making it an especially nice evening for us.
