The 10 Best Things to Do in Sindelfingen, Germany

December 23, 2017 Jeremy Dunfee

Standing about 10 miles southwest of Stuttgart and now known mostly as an automobile industry center (especially for DaimlerChrysler and Smart), Sindelfingen has a long history, some of which can still be witnessed firsthand. The Romanesque St. Martin’s Church dates from the 11th century, while the old Rathaus (city hall) is now the municipal museum. Other Altstadt (old town) sites include the unique Schwätzweiber (gossiping women) statue and the Fachwerkhäusern (half timbered houses).

The main reason for my stop in Stuttgart was to take this tour. I had visited munich a few years back and missed out on the bmw tour because they were closed that week and have been wanting to do a tour ever since. I booked way ahead of time to ensure I had a spot. The tour was at 10:30am, they ask you to register 20min before though you can probably show up later. They do start right on time. They start with a video so if you are a minute or two late you can still come in during the video I guess. There is a free bus that takes you from the Böblingen station to the Mercedes customer center. The bus leaves approx 10min after the hour and half hour. The ride takes about 10min. You can easily take the S1 train from Stuttgart down which seemed to arrive right on the half hour. The tour itself takes you to two buildings. One where there are people assembling components into the cars on a moving assembly line.
The second where everythign is done by robot machines. They let you get up pretty close. The guide was very knowledgeable. They say the tour is 2hrs but its really more like 90min

What a place and what an incredibly inventive and creative people the Germans are. There is so much attention to detail in this place and so many things to do it would be easy to spend days here.
It cost us (a family of four) €64 for the day, which was pretty reasonable value. The food was much, much better than I expected. Yes, there were the junk food staples but there were also some really decent dining options.
Pretty tricky to get to by public transport but absolutely worth it.
Just so amazingly good!

The mall has almost everything you need. There are a lot of restaurants and specialty shops that sell bread, pastries and meats. Big selection of clothing shops to choose from. The mall is not open on Sundays (I arrived on a Sunday to find it closed) but as I later found out almost all shops are closed on a Sunday in Germany.

The friendship Fountain at Sindelfingen's market place features very detailed figures that can move in parts. No entrance fee and good for photo shots with friends or just of the detailed work itself. In wintertime water is off and be careful at market days as the Fountain can be covered in parts by market stands.
