Irving House

Located in the heart of the Royal City, Irving House is one of the oldest community heritage sites in BC. Step back to the 1800s as you enter the colonial home of Captain William Irving, King of the Fraser River. Over 140 years of memories live within Irving House "...the handsomest, the best and most home-like house of which British Columbia can yet boast..." was how Irving House was described in the British Columbian newspaper in April 1865. With 14 furnished rooms to enjoy, Irving House is a must-see for everyone interested in New Westminster's past and anyone interested in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, heritage architecture or colonial BC.

This visiting was important to me to feel the soul of family who lived in this house. The dresses which daughters (Mary and Neil!) of a family wore took me a tunnel of history of a family. İt is an orginal house.

Queen's Park

While most reviews are based on the park’s nature views and “walk ability”, I thought I would point out the sporting nature of the park. First though the positive reviews already posted about the park are spot on. As well though, you can see some excellent hockey games and indoor sporting events in the arena, and see lacrosse games on the field.

This is a great tribute to the soldiers leaving for WW2, especially since it is based on a real event. The sculpture does a great job capturing a famous photo of the little boy breaking free of his mother to say good bye to his father. It is interesting to see how the area has changed since the photo was taken.

Between the lovely gardens and the action on the Fraser there’s I always something new to see. There is a board walk and many seating bays, benches to stop and watch the tugs, container ships and trains crossing the bridge. You can easily spend more than an hour just reading about the working Fraser on the placards along the walk.

Close to hospital has some good coffee shops and places to sit and think about things if your waiting for doctor. There is a small park for kids to play at as well.
