The 10 Best Things to do in Natal, State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN)

January 1, 2022 Stefan Strunk

Gateway to the stunning beaches of Rio Grande do Norte, the city of Natal is perched on Brazil's Atlantic coast, at the mouth of the Potengi River. Escape the bustle at secluded Pipa and Pirangi beaches or live it up at Genipabu and Tibau do Sul. The city is surrounded by Dune State Park. Go on a buggy ride over 30-foot sand dunes or tour the dunes on a dromedary tour. The city is home to the cleanest air on the continent, according to NASA, and also to the world's largest cashew tree.

Go to one of the 'kiosko', park just on their backside (free, don't let parking assistants on the road fool you saying there is no parking there), grab a table between the hammocks, order an ice cold beer and some local food - you're in paradise

Lot of 'kioskos' (beach chiringuitos) - my favorite is N°5, from Ignacio. Lot of seller's on the beach, you can have great pancakes (try carne de sol com queijo or Chocolate / banana), Great skewers (best are camaroes), drinks, and much much more. All good and at cheap price. Nice big waves every day, sea water is hot all year long, great views. Just take care about the tide, sometimes at high tide the beach becomes very narrow.
