Cathedral of the Saints Peter and Paul

Reviewed By 359_Severn

Probably the most interesting and unusual religious building in the city. The first church was built on this site back in the 14th century, later rebuilt. In the Turkish period, the church was a mosque, a minaret was attached to it. When the Poles returned, a statue of the Virgin was added. Inside the church there are richly decorated chapels, icons, a graceful statue of the girl Laura. In the garden there is a monument to Pan Volodyevsky, the prototype of the hero of the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz. To hear a detailed history, it is better to take a guided tour.

The Smotrych River Canyon

Reviewed By jl232 - Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine

There are several sets of stone stairs down into the canyon from various places in the old city. Easiest to find are the stairs from the bridge to the castle. Walking in the canyon is peaceful and interesting to see the houses of people living there now as well as houses overgrown with vegetation. Also you come across old city walls and a few more old city towers. The river is pretty too.

Turkish Minaret

Reviewed By jl232 - Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine

This Turkish minaret dates back to when the Turks ruled the city for 27 years. They certainly left their Mark! The minaret is topped with a statue of Mary of the Apocalypse stepping on a crescent moon and faces a Russian Orthodox Church. The church is owned by the Vatican but is a Polish Catholic Church.
