Dresinsykling pa Flekkefjordsbanen Day Tours

The trip starts off from Flekkefjord station, and the first experience you get, is a tunnel leading you out of Flekkefjord city. You will throughout the entire trip, witness several stops, that are well preserved by the volunteer organisation “Flekkefjordbanens Venner”. The stone work and the tunnels along the railway are particularly impressive. You have a beautiful view the entire trip. At Flikkeid you can see a beautiful well preserved water tower. Here is a good place for a break and a little snack. When you continue from Flikkeid you will see the most beautiful view at Flekkefjordbanen. You are cycling alongside Lundevatnet, and you see the beautiful fjord. At this stage, you will also pass through the longest tunnel who is 1.2 km. At the end of the fjord, you must pass a track exchanger. Take it slow and everything will be fine. You are now at Sirnes and almost at the last stop, Bakkekleivi. The last part is two km and you can choose to turn around here, instead of going the last part.

This is truly a great way to experience the Fjord landscape of southern Norway. The full trip to Bakkekleivi takes approx. 4h (3h if you're quick on the pedals) in beautiful terrain alongside lakes and the fjord. At several places the track goes through long, dark tunnels which gives some adventurous spice to the journey. Very friendly and flexible staff. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Tack för turen!

The Dutch Town

This old part of the town got its name from the extensive trade with Holland fram the 1600th until the 1800th centrury. There are few traces left behind from those times. The Dutch came to Flekkefjord to buy timber and rocks. Rumour has it that rocks from Flekkefjord is found under Schippol airport in Amsterdam! This cosy town area, with whitewashed wodden houses, picket fences and lush Gardens is a result of the rich herring fishing that took place in the early years of the 19th century. Take a stroll through the narrow lanes and soak up the old history.

No people in the streets, nut sun illuminated all the white houses, the flowers decorated chambers, a picture I would like ever forget. Some sounds were mysterious, some people play the piano in the second floor, others installed a modern divise, it was surreal, theatrical.

Brufjell Hulene

Reviewed By Svein-Magne_Tunli - Bergen, Norway

Brufjell mountain's highest point is 184 meters above sea level and offers a fantastic view over the Lista landscape. On a clear day you will see the lighthouse at Lista.
From the top of Brufjell, there is a marked trail (on the west side of the top) that leads to the potholes (caves) that lies horizontally at 20 m above sea level.
The horizontal potholes were created during the Ice Age some 20.000 years ago when the sea level was higher. The trip to the potholes takes about 1 h 30 min from the parking area.
The path down to the coast from Brufjell is very steep in places (see attached photo), but it is worth the effort to see the coastal features. The path comes out onto a platform about 10 meters above sea level. This platform and a series of caves have clearly been worn out of solid rock by the sea. Sea level rose quite fast when the ice melted at the end of the last ice age.

Brufjell

Brufjell mountain's highest point is 184 meters above sea level and offers a fantastic view over the Lista landscape. On a clear day you will see the lighthouse at Lista, an area know for its abundance of rare birds. From the top of Brufjell, there is a marked trail that leads to the potholes that lies horizontally at 20 m above sea level. The horizontal potholes were created during the Ice Age some 20.000 years ago. The sea level was higher back then. Did you know that millions of years ago the Mountains here in the Southwest were taller than the Mt. Everest is today? Brufjell is part of Magma Geopark and UNESCO. For more information, see www.magmageopark.com. The trip to the potholes takes about 20 min from Mt. Brufjell. There is some climbing involved in the descend, but handles have been put up to facilitate the climbing. However, dogs will not be able to accompany the owner. Keep in mind that the mountain may be slippery when wet. The round trip, that may be combined with the stony beach at Sandviga, takes 2-3 hours. Description: Drive road 44 (the North Sea road) to ana- Sira. Driving down the mountain from Flekkefjord, notice the sign Roligheten on the left side. Drive down this small road towards the small community. On the left hand side you will notice a sign with Brufjell on the stone wall of a torn-down barn. This is where the trail starts. Please park the car by the school you passed driving in some hundred meters back (a new parking lot is under planning). There is a relatively steep ascend in the beginning. Follow the marked trail. At the top of Brufjell you will see a mail box. Please write your name and nationality for statistical purposes. From here you walk in the direction of the sea, following the read markings down the mountain. It gets quite steep and people who are afraid of hights might find it a bit scary. Some safe handles have been put up to facilitate the short climbing. Return from top of Brufjell: It is possible to make this hike a round trip by walking west from the mailbox at Brufjell. Follow the trail through the gras over to the next mountain. Descend to Sandviga which is a stony beach. From here continue on the trail back to the houses at Roligheten Follow the road to the car. For a more detailed description, and a map, please see the tourist information in Flekkefjord.

Climbing the Brufjell gives the opportunity for excellent views across the area, it is tricky to find, the carved wooden signs at the start had fallen off and were on the floor, almost pointing in the right direction. The climb is steep and quite hard work with the surface loose in places. Don't forget, once you have gone up, you will have to come down !! We are 48 and 51 and at a reasonable level of fitness and although it worked our legs and arms we managed it easily (with a few stops for breath) - young children may find some of the drops scary and dogs would have to be kept on leads due to sheep roaming and could be a liability. Walking shoes are certainly recommended.

We turned off the main road just for interest and found this bridge, unusual in design and appearance it was pleasant to stop, look at it and walk across the wooden roadway, it bounces as you go ! Also of interest are the 'statues' in some of the Gardens nearby - interesting uses of toilet bowls as flower pots and sculptures !

Flekkefjord Museum

Gain an insight into Flekkefjord's exciting history. The main building dates back to around 1720 and you will experience a civic skipping and trade mans home. The home's interior and furniture is typical of the era dating back to the 17th century with echoes from the 18th and 19th century as well. The wharf side sheds exhibit interesting and exciting art projects throughout the year. This year it is Lars Kristian Gulbrandsen, or Tatjana L.K. Gulbrandsen's paintings that are on display. This artist is one of the most distinctive pictorial atists in the south of Norway. He shaped his life and all things around him into living works of art. The individual, life and art melted together as one entity however it is the visual art that remained the most important. This art is represented in a number of renowned collections and galleries in Norway and abroad. We can arrange guided city walking tours for those visitors wishing to learn more about Flekkefjord's colourful history.
