$6 taxi from Cotacachi and what a wonderful view. What use to be a volcano is now a spectator sight to see. Small shops and rest room as well as restaurant on site make for a lovely day. No Admission fee and you can take a scenic boat trip around the lake for $1.

Condor Park

I'm not usually into captive wildlife collections--this one is very different. The refuge is exactly that--a place for injured or sick birds of very dramatic species--the layout is great for walking through, the birds are magnificent--you will Condors which are huge and daunting--but in a large, spatial enclosure. The bird demonstration/show by a trained and knowledgeable handler is really something to see--especially the release of the birds for flying around and coming back for a reward morsel.

Peguche Waterfall

Take the short hike along a walled cobble stoned path. Lots to see along the way as you pass a campground and a small settlement. You can view the falls from a small bridge below the falls or climb to the top on some steep trails. It can be very muddy and slippery, so take care when climbing.

From the gorgeous glass entry doors to the tasteful restoration of a beautiful building and courtyard it is a feast to the eyes and senses in a sea of more modern block buildings. Close to the equally impressive Cathedral and Convento across the street, and the Hotel next door. Worth a visit.

...but, i hate to say this, the real attraction is the street (calle 10de Agosto) with all the leathershops. Great, great deals if you like leather stuff; shoes, boots, bags, jackets and horse-riding stuff. My girlfriend and I did some damage here! Absolutely recommended for, dare i say it, leather lovers!

Wariman

We hired a driver to take us here and half way up he stopped and said if you want to go the rest of the way it will be more money. The ride up and back to Apuela was $30! We explored the area and it was beautiful but they charge you again once you are there and then to see the one room museum there is another charge and with lunch which was fried plantains and guacamole. The total cost was over $60!!!! That is crazy prices!!! I thought I was back in the US. But the views were amazing.

This a place for locals who can enjoy what it offers without a long travel to get there. There are two working pools, 5 non working. The valley is subtropical and beautifully rough around the edges.
If you are a western tourist looking for a hot Springs experience close to Cotacachi, keep looking. These are not the Springs you are looking for...

Happy Horse Tienda Hipica

Reviewed By Anesthesia2011 - Sacramento, California

Cotacachi is famous for leather. The shops seem endless but of them all, we thought Happy Horse was by far the best in terms of quality and value. The shop features wallets, purses, backpacks, briefcases, and an impressive selection of equestrian products including saddles and saddle bags. Most models come in light brown, dark brown, or black and feature hand-stitching. Prices were extremely fair and the the salespeople were very helpful...no pressuring or up-selling. We left as happy customers with 2 wallets ($30 each), a backpack ($80), and two purses ($60-70 each). Would highly recommend!!!

Termas Nangulvi

The place was a nice suprise. I heard had hear it wasn't too nice but found the place cleaner and bigger than anticipated. What is not to like about lounging in a pool full of hot water. It's open until 9 pm and it was a good place to relax after a day of hiking.
