La Mirage Garden Hotel Restarant

A delightful hide-a-way 5 Star restaurant and resort. Dining here, a delight. Highly recommended by our Quito City friend Ana. Over-the-top elegance. Waitresses extremely attentive and helpful. Classically romantic setting. Picture windows overlook a park like area with roaming peacocks. Soup dishes presented in music boxes. Enjoyed the chocolate glazed steak. Many great and exciting menu choices.
Highly recommended for a long relaxing lunch if you're in the area.

I really enjoyed the sandwiches which were a treat and hard to find in other places in Otavalo. The desserts are the best, especially the chocolate cookie served warm with ice cream!

Serendipity

The best part of this restaurant for us was the staff - they made is feel like part of the family. The food is varied (ecuadorian, american, italian) so there is something for everyone including vegetarians. I enjoyed the horneado de chancho and the kids loved their nachos and bean dip. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

El Lenador

Stopped here for lunch. It was quite tasty, and was typical Ecuadorian cuisine. The staff was very attentive. The fresh orange juice was delicious. If you are feeling adventurous, try the Guinea pig, it's presentation is quite a jaw dropper. I just could not bring myself to try it, but maybe you would want to.

You could find great food in Cotacachi but its difficult after 9:30pm. La Casa Del Turista is a great alternative for unexpected travellers. Heres my review about it
Pros.
- They are open after 9:30pm!
- Portions
- Not (that) pricey
Cons.
- Spaghetti sauce needs improvement!

Veraneante Restaurant

Reviewed By THOMAS W - ROUND ROCK

The Ecuadorian chef was schooled in Columbia and at a Cordon Bleu school in Quito. His food preparations and simple presentation are not your standard "almuerzo" (lunch) fare found all around town. The restaurant is 3 1/2 blocks south of the main drag (locally called Leather Street) on Pedro Moncayo . . . but it is worth the walk.
My companions' favorite dish is the chicken sanduche (sandwich). My favorite is a meat loaf stuffed with vegetables. The meat is wrapped 1/3 of the way around with ground chicken, 1/3 with ground pork and 1/3 with ground beef. If the soup-del-dia is Locro Queso . . . GET IT. And he does wonders with the trucha (trout). Can't lose with his guacamole or ceviche either.
Buen provecho!!
P.S. The address Trip Advisor has is old. From the square where the tour buses drop you off, go one block up Leather Street (de Agosta) and turn left. Go 3 1/2 blocks . . on the left - across from the light blue school fence.
Address is: Pedro Moncayo between Eloy Alfaro and Vacas Galindo

Solid Rock is our go-to place for an American style breakfast. It is a meeting place for expats. The service is quick and they add new American style food all the time. I love the banana or blueberry pancakes. They cook the eggs just the way your order. Free refills on coffee. They have added eggs ranchero and breakfast burritos which are wonderful. Free WIFI. On Thursday morning the Solid Rock area has a market which you should not miss.

Cafe Rio Intag

Cafe Rio Intag
This great café is on St. Francis Square (the smaller one in Cotacachi). Intag looks small from the street but there are six interconnected rooms to give the feel of intimate Seating no matter where you are. It is a great coffee shop. It has a full bar. There is a decent light menu and killer pastry. It’s all good! The interior décor is eclectic and well executed. Loved it. The staff is cheerful, talented, and bi-lingual. If there was an official must visit list Intag would be on it.
I had one of Intag’s specialty coffees called “Dark Angel”. Never anything like it. Must visit if you are in Cotacachi.

La Marquesa

Reviewed By PulguisW - Dallas, Texas

This is a tourist trap, we went on a Saturday and the place was pretty busy, the food lacked flavor, the chicharron was overcooked and hard, i was extremely disappointed by the quality of the food. Service was worse, our food arrived before our drinks and the last soda didn't arrive until we finished our food. The check took just as long to show up and there was a ridiculous tip (15% I think) automatically added to the bill, it came out to about 20 bucks in a country were minimum wage is $300 a month and waiters do make normal wages (this is required by law) unlike the US were they need tips to make a decent wage, I bet the staff doesn't get to keep the tips either, there are better places off the main road where food is authentic and service is great, ask the locals where they'd recommend

We stumbled across this cafe when the rain started, and had a lovely wee rest. The sandwiches were so good that my boyfriend ordered a second one once he's finished the first! Coffee and juice were spot on and the service was the friendliest we've found in Ecuador
