Gotlands Museum

A marvelous museum. Larger than you'd expect and with well-designed displays, presenting Gotland's history from formation over 400 million years ago, to viking times, through the medieval period and on, showing vast arrays of remains and objects telling the story. Information is available in Swedish and English throughout the museum. Highly recommended for anyone with the slightest interest in history

Bungemuseet

Reviewed By reise-tanta-di - Lafayette, United States

We were a small group of Americans that visited the museum as part of our Scandinavian Viking tour. Our local guide, Gunnar, was great. We were especially interested in the process of making tar, a Viking trade item used to preserve Viking ships, stave churches and other structures. With the old houses and rune stones is a museum worth visiting on Gotland.

The peninsula were the lighthouse is found, offers fantastic scenery of an open landscape with juniper bushes which is grazed by cattles during the summer. Their "work" have produced something that looks like an african savannah. It´s a fantastic place for birding all year round.

Going to Fårö, one should absolutely check the Langhammars raukar, that is for sure. It is very nice to see these big rocks, some with funny shapes. And also walk on the small ones at the beach, jumping from one to the other.

Visby City Wall

Reviewed By TWal1 - Canberra, Australia

Visby’s City Wall is an iconic structure that surrounds the essence of the Old Town. The most impressive part is that it is largely complete with a range of towers, turrets, and gateways. This is a reminder of the wealth in the city and the need to protect it from invaders. A magical part of the city today. Thanks for your vote.

St. Mary's Cathedral

Reviewed By IngerA792 - New York City, United States

Great big cathedral! Definitely worth the visit but adds to it visiting the old ruin in combination. There are some nice places around it to, walking through the botanical garden, visiting the cathedral and then the stairs up to a good view over the city. Recommend a visit here and the walk around it! Fun fact, Gotland has 92 churches so anyone who likes visiting them will see plenty during their stay.
