A nice place to stay. Great Golf. Lovely comfortable bed and liked the bathroom amenities. Happy to have breakfast in the room as the dining area not open possibly because of the current restrictions. However, the rooms are not really equipped for making breakfast. Here is a photo of a recent breakfast provided in the area. The cost of only $10 more than the tariff at Koura Bay Lodge.

A spacious lounge over looking acres of immaculate gardens. We had the rainbow room. Spacious, beautifully presented in lodge chic. Very comfortable bed. Lovely little extra touches with biscuits, fudge. The arrival cheese and wine platter was so generous we didnt need to head back into town for dinner. Great choices of wine to go with the platter. Venue also hosts weddings and events. Very friendly and atttentive host and her dog Luna.

50th Birthday Weekend

Mary and Stephen were the perfect hosts for my 50th birthday celebrations with friends. We booked the whole retreat for the weekend and it felt like home. The large open plan lounge and kitchen was generous in size, large dining table for all to fit around and not forgetting the many tables and chairs outside on the deck to enjoy the views! Each bedroom and ensuite was immaculately clean as is the whole retreat. I totally recommend staying at Kakatu Retreat whether a party of one or 18! Definitely coming back! 10/10!

This is a spectacular place to stay with a Great hostess who picked me up from the airport. Fiona provided a nice, hearty breakfast to start. The place and room is super clean and is a beautiful Scandinavian style wood home. I was traveling alone and was a bit nervous about the first day since I was so tired from the long flight and being new to the area. Fiona picked me up and set me at ease--she is very hospitable. Highly recommended to stay here. Price is great.

Breakfast and coffee is served to order and preference at a time to suit. The beds are comfortable and bedding is quality with a nice feel. We stayed in the fantail room however all rooms looked good and have their own bathroom attached. Stunning scenery from the property with panoramic views. Nice spa pool to relax in post hike! Great position, nice accommodation. Just a short 5-10 minutes walk down hill to Akaroa shops.

Wow - the most memorable hotel stay in NZ

Reviewed By Pernille B

We travelled from north to south, stayed in five star hotels , bungee jumped and black water rafted - but our Silverstream Alpaca stay remains our favorite memory in New Zealand. Here we arrived circa 4:30pm, in time to meet the owner Kit, to walk the paddocks and meet the Alpacas and even to help feed two newborns. Alpacas don’t smell, and are endearing, smiley, love able creatures. Unlike mass market farm stays , this is a boutique experience in an idyllic spot, with very limited overnight accommodation in charming B&B family cottages. So you won’t be sharing the experience we more than one other family. Clean, soft and comfortable , we loved shopping in the nearby supermarket to eat in - to allow for one more evening stroll on the premises. This was fantastic for our teenage children and for us and we congratulate Silverstream Alpaca on having created the ideal alternative experience to a hotel stay in Christchurch and a MUST do NZ experience! Simply amazing !
