The mosques, bazaars, and Turkish baths of Istanbul could keep you happily occupied for your entire trip: an eyeful of breathtaking architecture here, a good-natured haggle over a carpet there. Kick your trip off at the awe-inspiring Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque), which is visible from many points of the city. Stroll the Galata Bridge and stop by the Miniaturk Park to see its tiny artifacts. The Grand Bazaar has thousands of shops to browse, while the Egyptian Bazaar is a fragrant trove of spices and fruits.

Cagaloglu Hamami

Cagaloglu Hamami (Turkish Bath) was built in 1741 to provide revenue for both the library of Mahmut I, the Ottoman Sultan of the time, in Hagia Sophia Kulliye (social complex) and for Hagia Sophia Mosque. Architectural plans of the bath was designed by Suleyman Aga, the architect of the court, and the bath was built by Abdullah Aga. Before the construction of Cagaloglu Turkish Bath, the palace built by Nevsehirli Damat Ibrahim Pasa stood on the same location. The palace was destroyed by a fire in 1740, and construction of the Cagaloglu Bath started soon after. The bath has both historical and architectural importance as it is the last great Turkish bath constructed before Sultan Mustafa III prohibited the construction of great baths in 1768, due to the increasing water and firewood needs of the city. Cagaloglu Bath is one of the largest double Turkish baths of Istanbul. Baroque style novelties, a rarely seen quality in Ottoman architecture.

The Historical and Luxurious Art of BathingHistorical and Architectural Features“I hope that until the end of days, good hearted friends who take a look at what I have made, when they will perceive the seriousness and the spirit of my effort, can have a fair view and can invoke my name to pray for me.” Mimar Sinan, ArchitectThe Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam in Istanbul was designed and built by Mimar Sinan, the chief Ottoman architect. Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamam; The elegant authentic surroundings of this Turkish bath, magnificent creation of Mimar Sinan, transcends the timeless barriers between old and new… Giving you an escape from the hustle and bustle of beautiful Istanbul City.Mimar Sinan the legendary Architect of that period was commissioned by “Kilic Ali Pasa” to build the Hamam to withstand the ravages of the sea and time. The large light, Magnificent Dome above the Camegah (relaxation area) is 14 meters across and 17 meters high one of the largest single domes built by Sinan. The features of the Kulhan Chimney/exhaust, the leaded domes and the glass elephant eyes along with brick by brick reappointing, original Kurnas and some carved stone and marble slabs found during excavation have been retained and used within the premises adding to its extreme historical beauty and interest. The Hamam Ritual is an ancient one, the materials used have not significantly changed and used to restore energy and vitality to the body by reducing the toxins, and allowing the skin to breathe again

This Turkish bath has a single gender restricted times with same gender attendants. The staff is very kind and the building is peaceful and beautiful. Be prepared to be bathed in your underwear or bikini (just the bottom is required, but you can wear the top if you like, most don’t). And you do not bathe, you are bathed! Like a toddler being cleaned by their expert mom! After being drenched you’ll have a lie down on a hot marble slab until you’re very warm all through, then more buckets of water and loofa, then an incredible bubble experience with massage and more loofa. You’ll be very clean, and can rest in your towels in the cooler room and have tea/coffee juice. I had a lovely standard western modern massage after that. This place is right at the tram station (do not mistake it for the mosque next door- the hammam is rust-gold colored, the mosque is blue-gray) and super easy to get to on your own.

I turned up at 3pm without a booking and was told to come back at 4pm which was fine. I had a haircut and pedicure. Sevgir was really lovely! She first cut my hair. As a hijabi, she was very respectfully and shut the door to the women's section so no else/men could come in. I loved the haircut and blower dry she gave! Never looked this good before, even with haircuts in the UK. She then gave me my pedicure and offered to paint my nails but I refused which she was totally understanding about. Definitely worth coming here! Also reasonably priced.

Cukurcuma Hamami

In various sources it is stated that Cukurcuma Hamam was built in the 1830's. The Kubbe(the wide dome) covering the warmness area, Gobektasi (the squared heated marble) and Halvet (sweating cabin area)are very bright and spacious and still reflect the magnificence of their era. Cukurcuma Hamam has begun to accept its guests as a boutique Turkish Hammam in September 2018 after a long renovation period.

If you would like to treat yourself to an amazing Turkish Bath while having the best amenities possible in a spotless, newly renovated historical place, you should go to the Cukurcuma Hamami. The building itself was meticulously renovated while staying true to its origins and turned into this almost like a modern day spa in a very historical and happening neighborhood in Istanbul. I went with my mom who has never been to a Turkish Bath since her childhood years. We both got the Freya package which includes both the Deep Scrubbing/Washing in the Turkish Bath and the Oil Massage, the whole experience was around two hours and we both LOVED it and highly recommend it. Can't wait to go back there! We were greeted by an amazing team of therapists, who provided us with a private room to change with a bracelet key to put our belongings. Immediately after, we were offered detox water while relaxing in the comfortable divans. Then they took us to the main area for the real Turkish Bath experience. Oh my goodness, what a treat! One of the therapists started singing for us which made the experience extra authentic and special. The oil massage was first class. They were able to accommodate special requests like my mom not wanting to stay on the hot stone for too long. They also provide disposable bikinis.

Having looked for days for a Hammam parlour I came across the Sultan Suleyman. Speaking to Emad on Whatsapp and phone he was informative, kind and very respectful. He gave me all the information I needed and in a timely manner. The service itself was second to none. A clean and professional environment in which Mohand provided me an amazing Hammam and massage experience and my wife received an equally as amazing experience by Sabiha. They took their time and made sure we were comfortable and always looked after. I’d highly recommend this place to everyone. Feel comfortable and secure knowing these guys are the best at what they do!
