In June, 2019 I sent emails to eight different Mombasa safari tour companies. Not only was Faith Chebet of Kenya Tru Nomads Tours the first to respond, her email answered the three basic questions in my initial email. Several of the other tour operators never responded and the others responded with basically a generic email that required me to then send them another one with my same basic questions. After I finally received pricing information from the other ones, and Faith sent that to me right away, I was able to compare. I liked how complete and detailed Faith’s quotes were (and she also helped me narrow down which park made the most sense given our constrained time frame), and decided to book our overnight safari with Kenya Tru Nomads for when our cruise ship was going to be docked for two days in Mombasa in November, 2020. Via CruiseCritic I ended up getting 25 other cruise passengers that were interested in doing the overnight safari. Faith communicated very efficiently and quickly with me and we all paid our minimal deposit via PesaPal (Africa’s version of PayPal, I think). I continued to email Faith because passengers would come up with different questions that they needed answered. Faith always responded quickly and thoroughly. Fast forward to March and April, 2020 and many passengers decided to cancel the cruise because of the coronavirus concerns. I was sending Faith many cancellation emails and I was hearing back from the passengers that they were getting their deposits refunded within a week. Finally, in mid-May, 2020 the cruise was canceled because of COVID-19 and the rest of us had to request our deposits be refunded. Once again, all of them were refunded to us, without issues or hassle, within one week. I am so sad that I will not be able to go on the safari in Mombasa. If the safari itself was anything like Faith‘s communication skills and thoroughness, we are going to miss a wonderful tour. So, I can’t actually review the tour, but as someone who has put many small group tours together for cruise ship passengers, Faith was a pleasure to work with and the most professional tour company person I ever dealt with. I am very sorry that I will not get to actually meet her or Kenya Tru Nomads employees in November and I am praying that the people and economy of Mombasa are able to withstand COVID-19.

We were collected from our hotel in Nairobi at 8am for the ~280km, 7.5 hour drive (with a couple of stops) to the Maasai Mara. On arrival at the Olairragai Camp we were greeted by the onsite team and shown to our permanent tents, these were very impressive, large main room and double bed with attached bathroom which included a shower, toilet and hand basin. The camp had set up a wetback hot water system so having hot showers was a real bonus. That same afternoon we visited the neighbouring Maasai Village and learned how they live. Finally on day 1 we entered the Massai Mara National Reserve for the final couple of hours of daylight and within 30 min’s we had been rewarded with sightings of herds of Zebra, Wildebeest and Giraffes which were topped off by a group of Lioness’s feeding on a recent kill watched closely by many Vultures. The preferred Safari vehicles here are 4 Wheel Drive (6 seater) vans with pop up roofs for viewing and photo taking although not as ideal as the 4 wheel drives trucks in the Serengeti they proved adequate & Isaac our driver / guide spoke good English and shared lots of interesting information with us. The second day in the Massai Mara saw us game driving for ~ 11 hours and spotting plenty of game including several Lion and Leopard encounters. So after 2 days we have seen 4 out of 5 of the “Big Five” and on day 3 are leaving the park to visit Lake Nakuru another reasonable travel day traversing the highlands at 2,700 metres above sea level 310km and ~ 6 hours. The accommodation at the Kivu Resort was budget but fine and the resort had a good restaurant and bar and even a 25 metre swimming pool. After settling in we went for our final game drive in the Lake Nakuru National Park, this proved to be so different to the Serengeti and the Maasai Mara as in places the bush was think and close to the road making animal spotting tuff but in other areas it opened up and gave us Rhino (yah 5 out of 5 now) and Flamingo along with plenty of the game animals you would expect to see. The bonus here at the lake are the wonderful water views made available and the changing afternoon sunlight on the water and trees. Final day was the drive back to Nairobi. Our group was 11 and for that number we had 2 guide / drivers, a cook, an assistant cook, and the crew at the permanent camp in the Maasai Mara. The game drives in both the Maasai Mara and at Lake Nakuru were good and we saw everything we hoped for other than the Wildebeest migration. It would be smart to consider how you can protect your camera from the large amount of dust it will endure.

Lake Bogoria is most famous as being one of the few destinations that is flocked to by millions of lesser flamingos during the migratory seasons. Is is a spectacular sight to see the shallows of this salt lake stained pink by the mass of birds. Lake Nakuru on other hand is one of the most successful Rhino Sanctuary boasting a good number of both white and black Rhinos, Rothschild giraffes among other wildlife. Birding in this Park is also rewarding as you get to see so many water birds like Pelicans. Hellsgate National Park is one of the most atmospheric park in East Africa and one that gives one an opportunity to cycle in the wild with animals Lake Naivasha boat rides are rewarding in birds and sceneries plus an opportunity to come close to hippos. If you love hiking Mt Longonot that is 2700 metres above sea level is a challenge that will be waiting for you as you complete this tour of the Great Rift Valley

This was beyond our expectations, very well organized and professional courteous service from all. Our Guide Joseph was awesome, his knowledge of the plains and all the wild animals was just incredible. We drove together for 4 days, and trusted him 100%. We will go back, and request Joseph again as our guide, we will also recommend Africa Vacation Safaris to anyone interested in having an experience of a lifetime!

Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, the Amboseli National Parks is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust", and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the Savannah and woodlands. you can also visit the local Maasai community who live around the park and experience their authentic culture
Inclusions: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Air-conditioned vehicle, Private transportation, All Fees and Taxes

Everything was just amazing. Manager Silas was super supprotive and provided all the necessary advise prior to booking. We saw all of The Big 5 and much more: lions, elephants, buffalos, giraffes etc. at a very close distance. Our guide was super proffesional and knew where to go in order to find animals. The hotel was also great and very comfortable, with glass walls and swimming pool. Highly recommend this company for organizing your safari trip.

We booked a 17-day family holiday travelling around Kenya with a travel agent based in the U.K. Top Cream Tours and Safaris was the ground agent handling our stay whilst in Kenya. Erastus was the personal contact, dealing with our itinerary and was excellent throughout. His ongoing support and approachable manner made it very easy with alleviating any concerns we had. I really liked that he would check in with us daily, in the evenings, to ask how our day went and which animals we’d sighted that day. The lodges we stayed at were mainly the Sopa Lodges chain which were all fantastic; Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge being my favourite. The game reserves and national parks we visited were awesome with some breathtaking views. Each of our safari experiences were unforgettable as we were very lucky to see all of The Big Five and that was down mainly to our rangers. The names of our rangers were Charles and Ken and to be honest, we couldn’t have asked for anyone better to tour around Kenya with. They were the absolute best. I would highly recommend them. They were very knowledgeable about the animals and types of species. They explained about The Big Five, The Angry Five and we made a new one; The Happy Five!!! We bonded with them very easily and laughed & joked with the guys throughout the day - and it was so nice to see us all get on so well. We all found it sad to see them go at our final destination. We ended our tour in Malindi and Mombasa in an all-inclusive resort for some much needed chill out time! It was beautiful. I would definitely recommend Top Cream Tours and Safaris and would hope that one day I will be lucky enough to return to Kenya. Thanks Erastus, Charles and Ken for making this trip such a memorable one!

When my friends suggested an African safari trip, I was quite hesitant and a little scared to be honest. I am not one to rough it, and was afraid of the idea of being out in the wilderness with wild animalls roaming around. I told them I would only go on safari Prince Harry style (in luxury!) Luckily for us, Africa220 offered the perfect solution with it’s bespoke safari options. GLAMping, not camping, is more my style, and they offered all of the comforts while still having the excitement and adventure of a true safari experience. The food was amazing, the wine was chilled and delicious, and I took the coolest photos of my life. Now I can’t wait to go back.
