Exceptional Motel and Restaurant

We booked this little motel from the road on our motorcycle trip through the Maritimes. We like simple, clean, close to the highway, walk to dining and parking in front of the room. We were impressed with everything we experienced. The room was loaded with amenities - all organized in a open shelved wall unit - Keurig coffee and tea with fresh cream and milk in the fridge, a microwave, all the kitchenware needed to cook up a simple meal including 2 burner hot plate, inviting tub and shower combo, personal amenities including a razor ... everything was clean and organized. We paid $10 at booking for breakfast included which was quickly prepared, ample, hot and delicious. We also went to the restaurant for dinner. My partner had lasagna which was excellent and I had the fish and chips which was served with lettuce and tomato and hot vegetables - prices were very reasonable. We dined in front of large picture windows overlooking the dam and gorge. It was like a mini Niagara Falls experience without the crowds. We walked down around the dam after dinner to a Visitors Centre and took pictures. The management team of this motel deserves acknowledgement for running such a successful business. Travelers on the road like myself really appreciate such efforts to make people feel comfortable.

The staff was nice. Very nice older gentleman was helpful but could not help the fact we had no water for first part and only cold water after! Room was Disgusting look like it was never cleaned and had blood in the corner. Again the staff was very nice and gave us Vouchers for another stay but then when we tried to use them Sam told us they were no good because the nice gentleman that offered it to us died! Location and Price is Good but this place wouldn’t be worth staying at unless it was under $50 because it us extremely gross. Spend a little bit more and go somewhere else!

I book music and comedy acts in town and for over 10 years and I have used this hotel for them to stay in. The main reasons for this is because it's near the venues and we were getting a good rate as frequent customers. During the pandemic I have not been able to book shows. When we were finally able to do so I called to reserve a room. My first turn off is when the person who answered me said he didn't speak French in a city where 98% of the people do. I asked to make a reservation and the price he quoted was almost $100 more than what I would normally pay. I asked to speak to Pit the owner, only to be told that he sold it off and the person I was talking to is the new owner, who is from out of town and doesn't know anyone. I explained the arrangement we had with the previous owner. He said he could not honor the previous price, I understand inflation but the price was almost 75% more. He quoted me a different rate which was a little more reasonable so I accepted and he said he would give me deals in the future as well. He also insisted on me providing him a credit card number to confirm the reservation, something the previous owner NEVER did before. I only gave in because he would not accept the reservation otherwise. Up until that point I had a sour taste in my mouth, but I was willing a to build a trusting relationship with him. On the day of the booking the artist comes up to me saying he had to pay full price. So I went there and spoke to the owner. He denied ever giving me the rate that he had quoted me weeks earlier. He claims he had written it down, but conveniently couldn't find it when I asked him to show me. I once again explained that it would be in his best interest to provide a deal like the previous owner did, as I book shows all year and he will profit from it. He outright refused. I explained to him that he is not the only game in town, the previous owner was a nice man who we wanted to support, but if he wanted the same loyalty he would have to do the same in return. He kept saying he couldn't offer a better deal, then later said he would do so for future bookings, so contradicting himself again. I told him that keeping his original word would show good intentions to work with me. He is from out of town and not originally from Canada. He probably moved here after saving his money in a larger Canadian city and searched for an opportunity to be a business owner. He had a great opportunity to built a rapport with local townsmen to ensure that the Motel's reputation remains positive. I kindly asked him three times to honor the original agreement, otherwise I will be taking my business elsewhere. When I asked him a final time I clearly stated to him that if he refuses again then he will lose my business, my trust and future referrals. Not to mention good local word of mouth which is important for a new owner. He still refused so I left telling him I would never use his hotel ever again to book artists. He didn't seem to be phased by it. He doesn't seem to grasp that he has a small two star hotel and his prices are now the same as the other big hotels in town. Why would anyone want to stay there now that his prices are not as competitive as big chain hotels? I use to see the "No Vacancy" sign often but to be honest, I haven't seen the "No" sign appear since last summer. Since then I have booked over 10 different shows and they have been staying elsewhere. It's his lost and he had every opportunity to make things right but he blew it!
