The 10 best Lodges in Puglia, Italy

April 27, 2023 Etsuko Causey

A patchwork of vineyards and olive groves, dotted with whitewashed hill towns and sun-bronzed beaches—Italy’s southern heel has no shortage of photogenic landscapes. There are a few surprises, too, including the baroque city of Lecce and the Itria Valley, with its UNESCO-listed trulli houses.

very clean and modern, nice surroundings, service at restaurant and choice of meals could be better. large and nice rooms + bathrooms, unfortunately without windows, only doors to the terrace in front - we prefer fresh air and no air-con.

This is not a place we would have considered travelling on our own. Chosen by the arranger of our bike-tour. Location a little bitt off-center, but everything in reasonable walking distance. Breakfast was excellent and so was the room.

Masseria Iazzo Scagno

100 hectares of woods and lawns in the calm Murge hills of the Itria valley between ilexes and secular oaks, stretches of evergreen pistaches, phillyreas and Irish Caithne plants, green fields of hay and wheat, ancient dry walls, drinking troughs carved in the stone: an oasis of peace and calm. Idyllic. Very peaceful and secluded but central enough to allow for easy travel to surrounding towns and true Puglia. This place is classy, it’s accommodation is comfortable and fitting for the destination you came to discover. Camille and Luca and the staff totally get the essence of service, so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. They will ensure that you are very happy. I would rate Masseria Lazzo Scagno as 10/10. Improvement? It would be fantastic if the beautiful food prepared for breakfast could be replicated at night but maybe that would detract from the peaceful serene calmness and don’t let this stop you from booking here - just eat out locally or during the day. It’s a fantastic choice and well deserved of its rating on Trip Adviser. I’m fussy and this place did not disappoint. If you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet with absolutely stunning surroundings in a place I believe is relatively off the beaten track at least to British travellers then this fits the bill. An easy fight from Manchester and a fairly straightforward journey by car to Martina Franca it’s very accessible but sufficiently secluded. Pool area is really smart and very neatly put together. Camille, Luca and Anna thank you so much.

Great location in lovely Monpoli

I had a great stay at Nannetta Rooms. Gianni was incredibly accommodating and very helpful ahead of my stay ensuring I was able to access the room, as I was arriving early and also arranging for a taxi from the station. The location was perfect - very quiet and comfortable - with everything I needed. The simple breakfast was provided at a local cafe. All in all. I would definitely go back.

Comfortable stay in Otranto

Reviewed By Jennifer L

We stayed 4 nights in this nice little apartment building (in the ground floor room with terrace), and really enjoyed it. Adele was very nice, energetic, friendly and helpful (although we all struggled to communicate, given our lack of Italian and her lack of English – still it worked, with a bit of Google Translate!). Our only challenge was not hearing back from the property when we emailed about our arrival (which was going to be evening time, coming from Matera), and arriving there at the property without any way to get in or knowing where to park – luckily we were able to call her and make ourselves understood enough to explain we were out front, and she quickly arrived on her scooter). The apartment consisted of a hotel-size bedroom with large bed, small table and chairs, and a hallway kitchenette next to the bathroom and front door. All very functional and comfortable. We didn’t use our (large, nice) terrace too much, other than for hanging our wet things to dry, but it was very nice with many potted plants, and right next to the old town walls. Wifi worked well. Given the low season (Oct), we were always able to find a parking spot on the street near the building (and were grateful for the residents’ parking permit which we were provided for our stay). A highlight for us was the rooftop terrace (for use of all guests, though we had it to ourselves each time), with its views over the walls and sea beyond – a nice place for a sunset drink or cup of coffee (the coffee maker next to the terrace was also a nice treat). Breakfast at the beachside restaurant a short walk away was also good (in a lovely seaside setting) – fruits, yogurt, delicious little croissants, cereal, pastries, cappuccinos served by friendly Adele.

3 days family break

Reviewed By filomena O

Got back a week ago from the lovely margherita di savoia beach and this lovely b&b, we had a lovely few days relaxing on the blue flag beach and couldn't fault sotto sopra for location! Exactly where you want to be right in the heart of restaurants and fantastic views right on the beach. Antonio and his partner and all the staff could not have been more helpfully and very friendly, the rooms were secure and had everything you could possibly need including hairdryer fridge and clothes peg on the balcony. The Italian breakfast is somewhat to be desired for! Coffee and cake! Mmm my kids loved it but you will find this in most places in Italy as they save the tummies for lunch! Overall we had a great stay and the 50 steps to the room kept us fit after all the pasta and pizza! We would love to stay hear again in the future thank you to all the staff

B&B Savarini
