Not what we expected... and too hot in the room

Reviewed By PaulienVervoort

We booked the deluxe room. No pictures of the bathroom for this type of room which apparently was the same not renovated bathroom as for the standaard rooms. The room itself was a bit more modern (different floor and wall paper), that was nice. But, unfortunately there were a lot of other disappointing things... There is one sofa that has a big stain on it, the lightning in the room is very poor and the walls are very thin. The room is very hot because the heating is constantly on, although they said that it would turn off at 10 pm (it never did, it only turned off somewhere in the night). We had to sleep with the windows open, which is bad for the environment. The shower is a bath/shower. The shower spray was good but tall people don't fit under it. The bathroom is also quiet wet when you finished your shower. The shower spray is not properly placed behind the 'screen' that has to prevent that from happening. After one night the cleaning suff had made the bed again and put new towels. Als we were stayng here for more than 1 night, we didn't want unnessesairy water get spoiled and we also wanted to be at ease, so we asked the staff to not clean the room. The next day aigain the towels were new and the bed was made. The young lady of the reception apologised. She said that she was too late to tell the cleaning staff and therefore everything already has been done. But yet, again, the next day, same scenario... I was also very unhappy to notice that the last night of our stay all my personal belongings (including my dirty laundry) were organised in different piles! I don't like people touching my stuff... But the main problem was the heating. I reported it to this helpful lady of the staff. She informed for us and came back to us with the news that the heating is centralised, so unfortunately the problem didn't get solved during our stay. The breakfast was okay, it was a nice buffet. The only remark here is that they didn't seem to think about corona. No guidelines we're given. You didn't have to desinfect or wear gloves, which is not safe now. So no, I don't think we will be coming back here.

he Hotel-Restaurant Palazzo di Mezzo, a fascinating historical house of the eighteenth century, is based in Carrù, the country dubbed "Door of Langa" and known for the National Fair of the Fat Ox. Site in the town center, the hotel offers the pleasure of staying in the late eighteenth century, including authentic period furniture, coffered ceilings and vaulted staircases, imposing walls and niches. Wherever the clay of brick tells centuries of history. The restaurant offers a cuisine that follows the oldest Piedmontese tradition, with typical dishes prepared in the presentation to taste them at their best. The quality of the structure and the favorable position in the low Cuneo, mean that lends itself as an optimal base for leisure or business trips. The family also favors an attentive and discrete service.

Cozy, small restaurant in the South of the Piedmont

Reviewed By Gabriel H

This is a hidden gem. A small place with only 8 tables or so, in two separate rooms, it offers a sense of intimacy while serving some of the best food in the Piemonte. All the pastas are prepared by hand on the property and served with delicae sauces or the best white truffle in season. The Vitello Tonnato is excellent, the breast of fassone is superb, but the most famous dish at this place is "Il Bollito misto a sette tagli", or seven cuts of boiled meat, served with seven special sauces. It is a Piamontese specialty.

Quality in an historical building, mountain village

Reviewed By Nickythekidd

Very beautiful old building renovated around 2011 to good standards, quiet place. Overall a very nice stay, recommended. Pros: Host very very nice and friendly, helpful too. She came with lots of tips for walks etc. English was poor but we got through with google translate. The village is small but very picturesque in a higgledy-piggledy way. The hiking in Valle d'Antrona is top-class Alps stuff, very good and easy to get to from here. We had one very good meal in the hotel. Also ate in one place at the top of the valley (very good) and once in Domodossola (also good). Cons: The hotel is not really a place to just hang-around during the day. (OK for a rest day in the middle of intense hiking or something but not really too much to do). We had a nice balcony with afternoon sun but the chairs were a bit uncomfortable and there was no light outside (for reading or wotnot after dark). No shop or restaurant in the village (but OK, not too far to drive for this). It was very quiet the week days we were there (mid July 2016). Because all the houses in this village are so close, there was a bit of noise from voices, but this was no problem really, and stopped before late.

Villa Pizzini

We found villa pizzini walking around mottarone and it was immediatly love at first sight for this stunning building from 1880. The villa was initially built by a wealthy family and used as hunting mansion until, in 1952, it was donated to the church by the mayor of stresa, donna maura, with the intention for it to be used as a summer holiday house for children. The mayor also named the villa after his little nephew edoardo pizzini who tracically died at the age of 8. Since we first saw it we decided to convert this villa, surrounded by hundreds of beech trees in a intimate and cosy restaurant and to make the 5 rooms available to our guests who wanted to fully experience the beauty of this mountain and our food. It was then that we decided to move up on mottarone, leaving london, uk, after many many years spent there. When we first found the villa though, it was abandoned and so was the wood around it, although, we seen the potential and we decided to start the the renovating process who lasted 9 months. The result is what you see today, a restaurant room, small by choice, so we can treat our guests in the best way, 5 rooms, dedicated to those who wanted to enjoy not only the homemade food, but also the mountains, the lake, the islands, the sunrise and sunsets that this beautiful mountain has to offer.

Style over itsy bitsy teeny weeny substance

Reviewed By JaneinRother

I've read several of the other reviews and am bewildered as to their generosity. Then I looked at the dates. I can only conclude that Villa Pizzini has got a bit above itself and thinks a tiny bit of deliciousness on a plate constitutes a meal. It doesn't. And it especially doesn't when you've walked up the mountain to get there. We stayed overnight as part of a walking tour from Lake Maggiore to Orta. This was supposed to be the highlight as regards the hotels. It fell well short on several scores: room was chilly as the heating was turned off after their lunch guests had departed and didn't go on again until the evening. We went out for more walking to keep warm. Second: the bed was tight against the wall so my husband had to climb over me to get in and out. Funny at 24; not so much at 74. Third: my towel stank of the damp. I should have complained but only discovered this while in the shower and just used my husband's instead from then on (another couple said their whole room smelt horribly damp). Finally, and most important, the restaurant: walkers are hungry. They are also a sociable lot so putting three couples as far apart as possible was not a good start. Liz from Glasgow soon dealt with that and we ended up in a row. Could we have one long table? No - because my hubby wanted the tasting menu, Liz was vegetarian and the others wanted à la carte. So a space between each table was insisted upon and if I wanted to sit with my husband I had to have the same tasting menu. Style over substance is the only way to describe it. Tiny tiny tiny portions. First course, salad leaves, to be eaten with your fingers to fully appreciate the different flavours. I haven't recorded in my diary the exact content of every dish but it's safe to say it was an expensive and very disappointing "meal". One thing I did record is that saffron risotto with liquorice is disgusting! The rest tasted fine but was so tiny it was lost in the plate. Our fellow walkers were shocked - not that they got much more on their own plates. Being hungry, my husband had ordered the cheese course (extra of course). Teensy weensy again - and no choice at all. Simply brought to the table on the plate. I'd given up by this stage and was just glad that our previous hotel had given us a good breakfast and insisted on us taking the packed lunch which we normally decline. We'd finished it while waiting for "dinner". Was there anything good? Yes, the bread was lovely and the wines surprisingly reasonably priced. And the waiter - not the owner but the other chap - charm itself. Breakfast was completely different: a truly fabulous buffet spread, including a platter of cheeses. Why can't they offer the same generosity to their dinner guests? If you can't avoid going there, don't order the meat tasting menu and take plenty of snacks .

A hotel with character

Reviewed By jonin10

Chalet Monte Nebius is centrally located in the small, picturesque town of Vinadio. We booked two rooms for one night. One room had a small balcony overlooking the town; the second had spectacular views of the mountains. The rooms were spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked. We had an excellent meal in a hotel nearby. Breakfast was available in a cafe across the road and it was ample and tasty. This is a hotel with lots of character in a truly beautiful location. Highly recommended.
