Spectacular jungle lodge

We've stayed in very rustic accommodations in jungle lodges in Peru, and this felt like luxury! Yes, there is mosquito netting over the bed (but then you slept very comfortably knowing you were safe from the little biters), and only cold water showers, but they were so refreshing after hiking or swimming, and only shocking on the morning we had to leave. We stayed in the separate cabin and loved all the space. Every evening, staff came by and let down the wall tarps in case it rained in the night, and the mosquito netting was set up for us, well before sundown. In the morning, the rain tarps were rolled back up, and our room was freshened while we were out on excursions. We totally agree with a previous poster who said the Aruscicito hike/canoe trip was the best. We saw the most wildlife/birds on this one compared to any other outing. I was very happily surprised at the lack of mosquitos! I'm usually a magnet for them, and I even stopped wearing repellent to dinner and never got bitten. (WARNING - I was eaten up in the Nuqui "airport" while waiting for our plane back to Medellin.) All of the staff were reserved, but friendly and helpful. The food is amazingly good for the location, and room rates include 3 meals a day. Alejandro is an excellent host. He was fascinating to visit with, speaks English very well, and was always checking in with us concerning activities or seeing if we needed anything. He even gave us some money back after we settled our bill, because our boat back to Nuqui was shared with several other guests, rather than just the two of us. No hesitation at all to recommend Punta Brava as a fantastic and comfortable place to experience the Pacific coast and jungle of Colombia. BTW, we are 60 and 61 y/o.

As a TripAdvisor DESTINATION EXPERT for Colombia, with more than 30 years of visits and now living 4 years in Medellin, and exploring just about every city & pueblo both large and small - it is my pleasure to provide my experiences of Cabana Villa Sofi. First a preface - Reviews are subjective but I try to keep them accurate and in the framework of like places within Colombia and use that as a touchstone. Know that I have traveled extensively throughout the coastal areas of both Colombia and Ecuador and so my review is with that baseline in mind. A visit to Niqui and the nearby Utria National Park has been on my radar for about 5 years and so glad that I finally was able to experience it and my stay for a week at Cabana Villa Sofi was very helpful in getting the most out of my visit. Know that there are 2 ways to get to Niqui, the first is flying in as I did from Medellin and it took about one hour flight and the other is to take a 30 hour boat from Buenaventura then travel up the coast. Pros - The owners/operators will take great care of you, both Yeneth and her husband will treat you as family from the moment you arrive until you leave. Yes there are drawbacks and some common issues but the hospitality completely outshines any negatives. And you will meet the namesake of the hotel as Sofi is still a baby and needs/loves attention from the guests. The breakfast is provided but don't get your expectations high as the kind of breakfast is what the coastal people of Choco eat. Know that everything with maybe the only exception of fish must be shipped in from Buenaventura so many items are simply not available including fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and chicken and a variety of even staple foods. Cons - The hotel is built of thin wood wall partitions so depending on your neighbors you will hear talking and noise through the walls. The wifi can be spotty as too the water pressure, again appreciate that this is a coastal village that is, for all purposes, completely shut off from the infrastructure. Just be patient and go with the flow and know that it took me, a seasoned traveler, about 4 days to unwind/relax and enjoy. I originally had planned to stay only 2 days at Cabana Villa Sofi but because of the hospitality of the owners/operators and the relaxed place I ended up staying the whole week at Cabana Villa Sofi and used it as my home base as I daily explored the coast, north and south, by boat and hiking. You should see my videos and photos, simply incredible. You don't need to have a plan as Yeneth and her husband know all the boat operators and people of town and they were instrumental in getting what I needed. I struggle to decide if 4 or 5 stars stars are warranted for Cabana Villa Sofi and after much consideration they earned 5 stars. You have other choices of where to stay in Nuqui and I am happy that I found Cabana Villa Sofi and recommend that others consider a visit.

El Amargal Reserva Natural

A beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature

Reviewed By Popko W

I stayed in El Amargal to relax and to bird watch. The hosts were super friendly and helpful, and offered several options for activities. We did a birding trip combined with a canoe trip on the local river. Very, very beautiful. As a bird watcher, I was also quite impressed. The area is not as well known as several other in this region, and I think there is still plenty to discover. To discover the woods behind the resort, you do need a guide, or stay at a decent distance to the house. I also saw nice species staying on the resort area itself. The accommodation was comfortable, but rustic; don't expect a city hotel. Beds are comfortable. The (bed)room is quite small, but limited storage space, but being here, you won't spend much time inside! Outside is plenty of space to hang about and there are plenty of hammocks around. The food in El Amargal was really good! (fresh fruit juices, fresh fish, arroz con coco, etc.). Apart from the 'regular' thing, Nicole is putting a lot of effort in a creative menu, which is great. And there's good coffee as well. Drinks (beers) and cocktails can be obtained. Note however that you may have to inform the hosts in time, because there's no supermarket next door. The place is quite isolated from the village and a distance from Nuqui: but this is also the attraction of El Amargal. You're really away from everything. That said: there was internet available, although not 24/7 (which I thought was great). All in all, an unforgettable experience!

Pijiba Lodge

A quiet and relaxing eco lodge right at the pacific coast of Colombia, where the rainforest and the ocean are footsteps away from your room and the food is made from the freshest fish. Mixing perfectly the gourmet and the native food plates. You can come and relax or you can come and live an adventure walking through the jungle or besides de wide ocean. It's a trip for everyone

Accommodation can be as much about the owner as the place itself and at Pijiba you have the combination of both and more. During 6 days of ultimate tranquility, we were treated to amazing walks and tours, sublime food and family like hospitality in a clean, safe, well run environment with ample Internet and renewable electricity ... a version of paradise. Gonzalo, a full time bird watcher and part time lodge owner :) , is delighted at the opportunity to get out into nature and show you its treasures. Nuqui is an unusually expensive place for Colombia, due to logistics, but I believe Pijiba offers unrivaled value for money in Nuqui.

Safio

Ein wahrer Traum, ein kleines Paradies und unvergesslich!

Reviewed By Yakub E
