Nice Hotel Service
Reviewed By coralgodI like this hotel because their offer free transport between Kualanamu Medan Airport to hotel and back to Airport. Also they have a nice restaurant and bar that sell my lovely beer “Bintang”. Hope can be there next year!

Reviewed By grizzly76Good: - great location near food streets (Jl Selat Panjang & Jl Semarang) & Medan Mall - reasonably near Medan train station - friendly and helpful staff - ceiling fans at the second floor make for a cool place to sit - WiFi speed is acceptable Bad: - many reviews have noted the lift shaft without an operational lift; no sign that a lift will be installed anytime soon - Rooms have no chairs, no toilet paper, no clothes hangers, no mini-fridge, no cable tv, no telephone. - The room I was assigned had a badly slanting side table and (small) ants all over. The toilet was also grubby. - The security set-up seemed minimal, with fewer than expected security cameras. - Not much traffic noise but noise from people moving about in the corridor was bothersome. - BIGGEST DRAWBACK WAS THE BARELY FUNCTIONING AIR-CONDITIONING. Once can overlook the other points but to return to a sweltering room that stays warm is totally unacceptable!

Good value and lovely staff
Reviewed By Jen BWe stayed here on our way in and out of Sumatra. Perfectly acceptable clean and spacious well- furnished rooms with good wifi, working aircon and proper linen on the bed. Rooms and bathroom a bit shabby, but well within the norm for SE Asia. Very helpful and friendly staff. Great coffee and tea station.

jungle guesthouse - the first one to be al built in Tangkahan in 1997- saving the forest from illegal loggers was the main drive of the owners in the early days and without them Tangkahan would be here today. Wak youn - also know as Black Tiger- sometimes referred to as the mama and papa of T.han for their dogged determination to get the loggers out and put the business aside. They did and still live in bambu _river guesthouse.

A small place with friendly service
Reviewed By Tine SPro: The place is located in a calm residential area of Medan Baru which is on strategic location, easy to go to other places in Medan with becak motor or taxi. Price is very reasonable. The cheapest room for 2 was less than US$20 and included breakfast. The staffs are friendly and helpful, willing to help when you asked them. The owner often slept at that place. Cons: A real budget accomodation, no fancy equipments/ facilities. Lobby was very small. Limited staffs, especially at night, but there was always at least 1 person during 24 hours of time. We just need to ring the front bell and somebody would come out from somewhere. The toilet near reception was hardly use so we couldn't find toilet papers there Breakfast was done in a place which previously was their restaurant. Not a fancy place and food was also limited. There were bread with butter & jam, and Indonesian lontong sayur. I was a bit concerned about hygiene standard of the breakfast place, though. I once saw a cat went up the table inside kitchen when the staff was serving food to guests, but with limited staffs (only 1 or max 2 staffs did everything from preparing food, serving the guests, to cleaning up), they did their best.

Dissappointing
Reviewed By Lotte HI planned to stay for a weekend at the guesthouse, but left already after an hour or so. After 5 months of traveling in Asia I’m used to local accommodation and am aware of the fact that it is cheap, but this place was just not clean - especially the bathroom. The room was very dark as there was only 1 small window. I am sure the people that run it are nice and I could tell they made an effort to make the common space look nice. However, the location is quite depressing (very dirty street, traffic) and not really made for walking around. This goes for Medan in general, but think it is good to know. The rules say that smoking is not allowed, but people were still smoking in the common area unfortunately.
