Onguma the Fort

This Fort is unlike any other, the only one of its kind in Namibia, built in exactly the right spot to give our guests probably one of the best sunset views in the whole of Namibia. Overlooking the beautiful scarceness of the Etosha Pans, decorated only with its wild animals and hundreds of Camel Thorn trees that dot the landscape. Accommodation consists of twelve Bush Suites with fire places for the winter months and air coolers for the summer months. Each suite has an indoor and outdoor shower. The one and only Fort Suite is situated inside the Main Tower of the main complex. It has a large beautifully designed bedroom that leads into a lounge area and out onto a private viewing deck.

Etosha Safari Lodge

Guests rave about the view: the restaurant and chalets, situated on a hillock, offer magnificent views of the African bush savannah. All of the 65 double room chalets have air conditioners and mosquito nets, and a choice of three swimming pools between them. Apart from the restaurant and bar there is a wooden platform for sundowners high above the Mopani bush.

Not what we expected

Reviewed By whistler2010

This review may be a little unfair because we were travelling on a Rovos journey which is upscale, but this lodge is not. The comparison is with Mokuti Lodge which is where we stayed last time we made the same Rovos journey. We had a couple specific of complaints. The walks to the rooms is very long and for anyone older the distance could be a problem. And meals were buffet style and the food seemed to run out from time to time. I would not chose to stay in this lodge again.

A luxurious lodge on the outskirts of Etosha National Park that is a truly epic place to stay. Amazing and friendly staff - excellent lunch, dinner, and breakfast, wonderful and insightful game drive and a perfect room and swimming pool area. Couldn't ask for anymore. We wish we could have stayed longer than two nights!

Ongava Lodge

The well-established Ongava Lodge is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve. Situated as it is close to the top of a hill in the foothills of the Ondundozonanandana Mountain Range, the vantage point is beautiful and overlooks a well-frequented waterhole and the plains beyond. Ongava Lodge offers luxury accommodation in 14 rock and thatch en-suite chalets. There are impressive views over the camp's waterhole from the main lounge and dining areas and there is also an inviting pool to cool off in the heat of the day. Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch or on the dining deck under the stars.Activities include game drives into Etosha, visting hides, and nature drives and walks on the reserve. Ongava has resident white and black rhino, giving guests staying at Ongava the opportunity to see both species.

Fantastic

Reviewed By Rsars

This is a beautiful lodge, in the middle of the Ongava game reserve, which is a private reserve situated next to Etosha national park, and dedicated to the conservation of rhinos. There are many rhinos in this park and the watering hole placed in front of the large deck which serves as the restaurant makes sure that you spot game all throughout the day. We saw rhinos, lions, hyenas, kudu, springbok while sitting and having a meal. Since the lodge is situated in the middle of the reserve, one is not allowed out of your room once it’s dark, without an armed escort. We had a few amazing safaris in this park.

Hobatere Lodge

Hobatere Lodge is strategically located 65 km north of Kamanjab on the western border of the Etosha National Park. The lodge has an airstrip and is situated in a concession area of 8,808 ha which is home to a wide selection of game, including elephant, giraffe, eland and Hartmann's zebra.

Dissapointing to see the deterioration.

Reviewed By mfuwe

I will admit to having stayed at Hobatere several time under the previous ownership but will attempt to be totally objective in this subsequent review under the new regime. From the start booking was straightforward but was surprised that my card guaranteeing the reservation was charged immediately with the full amount. Even Agents don't do that. We went with an open mind but it was apparent from entering the concession gate that maintenance was needed. OK. The rains had damaged the track but overall it is not as driveable as it once was. Reception was fine, and check in progressed smoothly. We were offered game drives etc., but as we are habituated to self drive we were shocked and surprised to be told this was no longer allowed. So our daylight drives were restricted to the 16km of access track. On previous visits we had enjoyed using the hide some 900 metres from the lodge, accessed by vehicle for safety, and were further disappointed to learn that it was no longer in use. More disappointment ensued when we learned the smaller observation hide attached to the lodge grounds was no longer frequented by wildlife due to wildlife avoiding it because of the new lapa building being too close. On the brighter side our Rondavel was as we remembered it but with the old 'wildwest saloon' half doors now replaced with full size doors which sadly did not fit properly and needed urgent attention by a carpenter. But apart from that we liked the comfort and cosiness of the Rondavel. Meals, drinking and socialising were to be done in the new Lapa and we had no issues with the delicious meals offered each evening. Overall wildlife viewing was disappointing even allowing for us being there in the green season. As forecast we saw little from the walk up hide, not even birds, apart from two elephants in the distance. We did see more after dark on the two night drives we undertook but again not as much as before. I cannot see us returning here unless and until there is evidence of more enlightened management and improvements to the infrastructure.
