Stayed 3 nights over Queens Birthday weekend. The unit was exceptionally clean and warm. Plenty of bedding for the chilly nights. The restaurant on site was also exceptional. Dined there with family on Friday evening. Fabulous meal and fabulous friendly service.

Added bonus was the unlimited wifi & morning paper, things you don't get elsewhere. Very reasonable tariff. We'll be back.

We paid $640 for two nights Oreti is very tired. Bed must be original because it was so uncomfortable we rolled into the middle and couldn’t sleep. Worst of all bed lined not clean we checked bed on arrival and noticed that bed quilt had stains we asked reception if we could have a clean quilt and we were told they had none to spare. Kitchen tap very old and sprayed everywhere, kitchen not well supplied, air conditioning down stairs and bedrooms freezing on upper levels.

Braxmere is in a breathtaking location that provides an idyllic setting for tranquil relaxation. It is also within a short distance of some of New Zealand’s best skiing, tramping and fishing spots. Reflecting the balance of action packed activities with downtime is done through simple yet stunning design. Host a wedding, take a weekend break or enjoy a corporate retreat.
We were not able to stay as only 1 of the 2 beds were made up- there were 3 of us. We booked in prior to the office closing and received a confirmation email from reception with key details and telling us to enjoy our stay. On arrival we went to the restaurant, picked up our key and on opening the door to the room were met by a very musty smell. As the room had not been prepared for us we had no choice but to return the key. We just managed to catch restaurant staff as they drove away. We then had to book other accomodation 20 mins away, not easy to organise at 9.30pm but at least other Turangi hosts are keen to look after their guests. The reception staff have since texted to say that their 'after hours service' needs working on but as the room had not been prepared for us it really didn't make any difference whether we arrived prior to the reception closing or after? Were they going to make the bed and put towels etc out and air the room while we stood waiting? We would recommend to other guests to check their rooms before paying as otherwise you may end up out of pocket and without a bed for the night, with no staff left to put things right...

We enjoyed a quiet 2 days relaxing at this lodge. Set on lovely large grounds and our room looked out to trees and birds. Rooms were a reasonable size, you could hear your neighbor talking, a bit outdated, but comfortable and large. Bathroom very tight. Had lovely dinner at the restaurant. We had a studio room.

For a 3 star motel, this is actually pretty amazing. Pros: private geothermal pools open any time! This was what decided us to come here, and were not disappointed. Online booking was easy and had a big discount, booked while family driving towards town. Different sizes of apartment, we had a 2brm that would sleep 5. Small but furnished kitchenette, pretty standard. Geothermal heaters in the rooms, plus an extra oil heater in case you needed more. Sparse but clean. Close to ski areas etc but not on the main road, so not as busy. Service was good, friendly and helpful manager. Cons: iphone map app can show the wrong address if you input the address without the motel name Takeaways delivery didn’t happen despite being told they would deliver… but that was a fault with the takeaway company. The furniture is very simple, chairs not hugely comfortable. DVD player appeared to be broken, no instructions on use of TV or DVD units. Milk was only a small amount in a little glass bottle with no lid, so was in danger of spilling in the fridge.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly small hotel in Turangi, look no further than LKNZ Motuoapa Bay. Guest chalets are all self-contained and offer a kitchenette, en-suite bathroom, and have plenty of space to relax.
Without a booking I was allocated a very nice comfortable clean unit. Real value for money I thought. The only thing I can make a comment on in the negative is that the road was close & a lot of trucks go through but I still managed to sleep quite well. Although Lake Taupo is only a couple of minutes walk & you need to cross the road you can still see it from the unit. Plus there is a 10 minute climb at the back of the motel to look out over the lake which was well worth the effort..
