Sadly, we only had one night’s stay at this beautiful hotel. As soon as we drove up to it, it was obvious that it was something special! Situated in the middle of a forest, it looked very welcoming. And on entering that feeling continued. The decor and furnishings throughout are of an exceptionally high standard. There was nothing out of place, high standard of cleanliness and upkeep was obvious. It is a stunning building both inside and out. Our room was of the same high standard, if a little on the small side. It would probably be improved by removing the part wall between the seating area and the sleeping area. I can see that it is there to House the quirky tv which pivots between the two areas, but it does reduce the floor area considerably, as well as being a little inconvenient. That said we slept extremely well, partly due to the comfortable bed, and partly due to the remoteness of the hotel. The staff spoke little English, but between us all we managed pretty well. Especially the lovely lady in the bar, she was extremely helpful. The restaurant was also faultless. Beautiful food, well present and served but the very helpful waiting on staff. Breakfast the following morning, was eaten in the same restaurant, although apparently, there are five restaurants at this resort in total. It was a buffet breakfast, a huge range of quality items were available. We really enjoyed it! Sadly, we had to leave after one night, without having the chance to explore and experience what this beautiful hotel has to offer. It is somewhere I would love to come back to for a few days. Just to chill out, and spend time in the spa and walking the many woodland trails. It would be bliss!

A lovely hotel where management and staff go the extra mile

Ten years ago, we celebrated our British/German wedding in Stolberg, which is a beautiful, historical little town in the Harz mountains. At the time, Frau Dübner, the owner of the hotel 'Zum Kanzler', left no stone un-turned to ensure we had a fairy-tale wedding. There was a huge variety of delicious food, the function room and the food were presented beautifully, and the service and attention from staff and management were out of this world. We returned this summer for our anniversary and found both the town and the hotel just as charming as back then. The rooms are clean, the food is delicious and the staff are very helpful.

Extremely good value and a beautiful location

This was a very comfortable little place which we really liked. Stolberg is a very rustic little town full of cobbled streets and timbered buildings with a river running through and a castle being restored above. We had a very nice room with a comfortable bed and, if we left the window open, we could hear the river. Dinner was fantastic each night, as it was spring they had a local speciality of ramson (wild garlic) soup, which has a mild and delicate flavour and became a favourite over our four-night stay. Breakfast in the morning was very generous and good quality. The staff were very good, as only one of our group could speak rudimentary German and not all of them spoke English there was something of a language barrier but they still made an effort to let us know when the castle, currently under renovation, had an open evening so we did not miss out and a very pleasant evening looking at the restored section and then walking back under the stars followed. This area of Germany is well worth a look. There is the Harz Mountains steam railway, plenty of cycling and walking, very pleasant little towns and a lot of mining history if that is your thing. We used the Kupfer as a base and had long drives to sites of interest, but after a day began looking forward to the actual drives as the area is so scenic. We stayed in early April, the area is frequented by tourists but we were just ahead of the start of the season, so enjoyed a lack of crowds and extremely reasonable rates for the rooms. We will go back- we loved it.

Splendid in every way!

We loved absolutely everything about this hotel. The location is beautiful, green every where you look and so quiet. The rooms are nicely designed, the shower is great and the bed is amazing, with big pillows and soft blankets... we could spend the whole day in it. The only thing that motivated us to get out of bed was the breakfast :) Huge variety of local products (including a honeycomb!) Lots of vegan and vegetarian options, freshly made omelets and French toast... in the evening the restaurant offered great food and the bar had a wide variety of delicious cocktails. The staff was more than friendly and made us feel very welcome. We never go to the same hotel twice, but I have a feeling this will be an exception. A splendid experience indeed.

Cozy old hotel in an ancient building.

Even though the hotel is in a very old building it has all modern comfort and the most lovely pool and wellnessarea. The beds a bit too soft and the breakfast could be improved. Nice eveningmeal in the restaurant. Unfortunately we were there on a Monday, and for some strange reason the shops are all closed on Mondays.....

Hotel Zum Buergergarten

Our house is located in the southern valley of the "historic European city" Stolberg surrounded by the Harz forests with views of the castle of Stolberg and is an ideal base for exploring the Harz and Kyffhauser, for example, the "mountain of the Germans," the Brocken, by the Bode Valley to Hexentanzplatz in the valley, according to the Selketal Magdesprung by, or on a guided tour of Quedlinburg, Halberstadt, Werngerode, Goslar or Claustal-Zellerfeld.Of course, a trip to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial, Barbarossa, on the Kyffhauser, not missing the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen or the tradition distilling Nordhausen. For every wood gives something to marvel at the historic mines, the geologically very different caves, castles and palaces, or simply experience the Harz forest on a hike.

Very nice and price-worthy stay with a small group of motorcycle-riders

The rooms were spacy and clean. Beds had good matrasses. We had dinners in the evening very tasty and a big breakfast-buffet in the mornings. Outstanding! In the evening you can walk trough the beautifully restored city of Stolberg with a typical (former) East-German building style.

Loved the owners!!

We stayed for 1 night and had booked 3 rooms. The hotel is absolutely perfectly placed in the middle of the most beautiful town I’ve ever seen. Check in was self service, sort of. We had to ring a telephone number or knock on a house up the road to get the key. Small car park at the back of hotel in their courtyard. The daughter spoke good English and really was most delightful. The hotel is old, the decor is old, the pillows were too thin but the hotel was absolutely charming and the owners couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than as if it were my own family. We took our own kettle and coffee to make sure we had drinks in our room. A number of restaurants directly outside to choose from. I would definitely return - Stolberg - what joy.
