Reviewed By Lori MThis is the second stay over the years and it just keeps getting better! The hotel is exceptionally clean, and is situated overlooking the Rhein River. There are two rooms which have balconies, and other rooms too have lovely views. We enjoyed the balcony room this time. I believe it was #2. Our room was spacious and comfortable and a beautiful balcony with outdoor furniture. Just loved sitting and watching the world go by. Breakfast on the bright enclosed dining area consisted of baskets of assorted breads, meats, cheeses, fruits on a beautiful tray, along with individual pots of hot coffee. Inside a guest could also get eggs, cereals, yogurt and other fresh fruits, cookies and cakes to bring back to the table. Thank you again To our host Gil Velich who always had a smile, helped with travel plans or suggestions on sights. This hotel is our favourite along the Rhine, and we hope to have the opportunity to visit again.

Reviewed By johnbGilberdykeWe arrive at the hotel and were given the keys to a room that we found was on the top floor in the eaves of the roof with limited headroom on the steep stairs. Although we had booked a double room this was a family room with 2 bedrooms. There was an airconditioning unit in the room that worked well bit meant that you could not have the windows open. The view of the Rhein were great from the room. The main problem with the room was the noise from the railway lines on both sides of the river, this was continious through the night. The restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was very good. There was a great terrace overlooking the river. Wine was available to buy by the case from the owners own vinyard. We would happily stay in the hotel again if we could guarantee a less noisy room.

Reviewed By Katya VIt's really hard to fault this hotel. It is in a castle - yes, an actual castle! - overlooking the Rhine and the views are spectacular. The hotel has been very tastefully renovated and there is a free swimming pool, steam room and sauna. The breakfast buffet is incredible with multiple types of bread, meats, cheeses, muesli, fruit, fish, pate, hard and soft boiled eggs... in fact, pretty much anything you can think of! My only slight complaint is that the food in the evening wasn't very German but it is a very small complaint

Reviewed By jesshutchyTheir credit card machine will ask if you want US dollars or Euros. The owner will tell you it’s a better exchange rate. Be aware, it’s terrible. Hit Euros. Your credit card company will give you a way better exchange rate. Also if you want to leave your windows open at night (no a/c) do not book close to a room with smokers. Your windows open will work as a vacuuming suck the smoke into your room. The room was very clean. Great location. The owner from Germany was very nice. The other owner-not so much.

Wonderful stay!
Reviewed By davida23We stayed three nights with Stefan and his family. Our room (#10) was very large and comfortable. The daily breakfast included fresh rolls and excellent coffee. We were also given rail passes that saved us quite a bit as we explored the area. All in all we had a wonderful stay for a very reasonable price, at the perfect location for exploring the Rhine valley and its many castles. Highly recommended.

Reviewed By mdhk2013Rooms where clean, large, beds are good for a good nights sleep. Bathroom was clearly designed from the 70's. Overall an solid room, however the prices at 110,- for 3 people was a bit steep. Breakfast quality is more on the low end.

Excellent value
Reviewed By mm53My wife and I stayed here while we were attending the Night of the Prog festival at Loreley Amphitheater in July 2018. By the time we started searching for rooms (October 2017), everything on the Loreley side of the river was fully booked. But this hotel was in the perfect location for those of us on the "wrong" side of the river, with the ferry right across the street. Frankly, I think St Goar is the better town to stay in. Our en suite room (they have both en suite and shared bathroom rooms) had a great view of the beautiful Rhine River. But with the view comes the possibility of street noise. Get a room in back if you're a light sleeper. There's no air conditioning and it was 80-85F during our stay. But it was tolerable with the windows open and the cool breeze coming off the Rhine. There are only a couple of hotels in the area with air conditioning and they are much more expensive. Our room was fairly large, by European hotel standards. The double bed is comfortable, even if it is the typical European twin beds pushed together with two separate comforters/duvets. The shower is fine. Breakfast is good and there's really no where else in town to get breakfast other than coffee, pastries and sandwiches. There's a mini-fridge full of bottled beers just inside the night entrance. You just mark what you take on the sheet of paper provided and they add it to your bill. I was a little worried that my fellow festival attendees staying here might get a bit rowdy or noisy but I never heard a peep out of any of them at night after the festival. For those of us used to online booking and payment, Hotel an der Fähre is a bit different. Use the email form on their website to inquire about vacancies. Choose your room and ask them to reserve it. You will receive an emailed confirmation. No deposit is required. They accept cash only, upon your departure. Should I have the opportunity to visit St Goar again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Hotel an der Fähre again.

Good but could use a bit of work
Reviewed By tuscantraveler54Stayed two nights in the lovely hotel on the village square. Large well appointed room that was very quiet at night despite the trains. The breakfast was tasty and generous and everyone made a real effort to be helpful. The spaghetti bolognese was over cooked so the pasta was mushy. I had trouble with the wifi, my phone would intermittently connect in the restaurant but not my iPad, and there was no signal at all in the adjoin hotel building.

Friendly and homely
Reviewed By András RIt was a good decision to sleep there. The only that I missed the latest check in hour and the went to sleep around 21:30 or so. You need to hurry. Good place for family with kids. The wify could be better.
