Great staff in good hotel
Reviewed By Henri MLike so many other customers have written, this hotel has absolutely great staff. They really escalate the hotel from good to great. I was surprised how nice and personalized the breakfast was, did not expect this. Staff at reception are just amazing, they try to help you far more than the duty requires (in my case about a visa in another country). Location is ok, I guess there is no perfect location in Nouakchott. The free airport transfer is a great added value and the rooms are far bigger than normally rooms are. Only negative aspect is lack of elevator, however the staff do carry your luggage, so you don't need to worry about that. Internet is also sometimes quite slow, might be in the whole country. The food at restaurant is ok and reasonable priced. If I would ever go back to Mauritania, I would definitely get back to this hotel.

Great boutique hotel in the center of Nouakchott
Reviewed By leciel83A surprise find on TripAdvisor with lots of good reviews so I booked this hotel during my visit. As what other comments mentioned it is a great boutique hotel located in the center of Nouakchott. The room is big, clean, a bit of luxurious European deco and the bed is comfortable. The rate is also decent as well. If I come to Nouakchott again in the future, I will stay here again.

Apart from there the hotel close to French embassy- must be a bit more secured. There is an open swimming pool, but due to COVID restrictions I didn’t swim.

Excellent Hotel and Stay!
Reviewed By Bill CI stayed at the Al Salam for a month while working on a project at the airport. Very convenient to the airport at a 15 minute drive and about a 20 minute drive to the city center. Also, when there is a wind from the west off the ocean it can be about 10 C cooler than just a couple km inland. There were many pleasant days and evenings. Overall the hotel was excellent and the staff very professional and friendly. The hotel is north of the city center. If you want to be in the city center this is not the place. If you want a hotel away from the hustle this is where you want to be. I had a king bed room with a balcony that looked over the pool area with a view of the ocean. The room was nice size as was the bathroom. We lost water and power a couple times during my stay, but the outages were short-lived. The room had everything I needed including a small fridge. One of my favorite parts of the room was the balcony - I spent quite a bit of time sitting, listening to the ocean while catching up on things. The hotel itself seems relatively new. There are also condos on the property. The artwork in the lobby and restaurant is really nice. Food at the restaurant was excellent! Breakfast was ample with a nice variety. Being there as long as I was I had about everything on the dinner menu twice - every dish was fantastic! The pool is decent size with a nice area for lounging or dining. The gym is one the best I have seen at a hotel with a huge amount of machines and free weights. Some of the cardio equipment does not have electricity tough. I took several walks on the beach. There are a couple restaurants on the beach within a short walk of hotel. The disappointing aspect was all the trash on the beach. It is really bad, but not so noticeable when you get to the water. I would not hesitate staying at the Al Salam again and highly recommend it to others.

Trying hard only gets you so far, then you need money
Reviewed By Johon ZSo this place tries very hard. They are a pleasant staff, they want to help with the wifi problems, the light problems, and the hard beds. But only money and investment can fix some problems. The rooms are quiet as long as no one is moving around and there are no noises from outside. The bed is rock hard. Let me emphasize that: rock hard. The restaurant has a limited menu, and its pretty simple. But to close on a positive note, the staff is very friendly, and their facade of security is entertaining...

Reviewed By nigelh689Booked online as this hotels had good reviews. Can only assume the people that wrote those reviews got the address wrong and stayed in a different hotel. Room was not cleaned, rubbish still in the bin from previous guests. Tea/coffee not replenished. Felt dirty. Breakfast was disgusting. They had two hot dishes but one was gone by the time i got there and never refilled. Complained to management but they did nothing about it. Dont know how hygenic any of it was. Poor standards, would never stay again. I did like the outdoor seating and they had Lipton Tea !

Reviewed By waiganjyI arrived late at night and the reception was very good. My room was huge and very clean with c;ean sheet and towels. The bathroom was clean and had both a bathtub and shower with hot water. Staff were helpful and gave advice on many issues, shoping, touring, restaurants. One has to place an order for lunch and dinner and the food takes a long time to be prepared. The two days i ate dinner, the food was very good. Moaquitoes can be a menace in the seating area outside.

The worst front desk i have experienced
Reviewed By R6383ZQgeorgerI have just come back from a business trip to Nouakchott, this was my first experience at Azalai Hotel, after a 24 hour journey to get there, i was picked up by the hotel shuttle and this was great, however upon arriving at the reception myself and three other guests had to wait for over an hour to be allocated rooms, the front desk is a disaster and they were very rude and arrogant with us particularly one Gentlemen who i will not name, i heard many others having suffered the same over the few days i was there. I have since got back home and wrote to them for a print out of my receipt for the room and the same Gentleman refuses to send it. The buffet food is also not up to standard and does not reflect a 4 star. Otherwise the rooms and wifi are good.
