My wife and I stayed at the Bay Vista for 3 nights from 28 May 2022. We considered all the other accommodation in the Picton area and were glad we chose this place. Best value for money and has uninterrupted views of the marina and hills beyond. The unit was a good size, very well maintained and Rachel was a lovely host. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet, spacious and scenic environment. Moses

Just a quick one night stay before catching the ferry next day. Great location with a supermarket just across the road. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Unit was very spacious, clean and tidy. Great shower with good pressure. Easy onsite parking. Only comment would be that the bed was a bit firm for our liking.

Beautiful location but not great value.

Reviewed By jaymanl2

Stayed one night while walking the Queen Charlotte Track. Room had beautiful view of the bay but for the hefty price tag not great value. Unit was dated, filling kettle from sink in bathroom, loose fittings etc. Food and service at the Boat Shed was very disappointing. After a long walk in waited at the counter for several minutes trying to get a drink while a guy stood behind the bar mucking around and ignoring us. A guy walked in off a launch and the staff member proceeded to walk out from behind the bar to ask what he could get the guy. Some of the staff appeared miserable like they didn’t want to be there. It feels like the whole place is set up towards rich boaties and wealthy tourists, not your average kiwi holiday maker and due to the lack of alternative accommodation it seems nothing will change.

Family holiday destination

Reviewed By Joezanna

My children and I spent 5 days at the Gateway Motel seeing the New Year in. The rooms were very spacious for an adult and 2 children, they were very well kept with staff servicing our room each morning. Perfect location to stay as it is central to the town center which makes walking the main street with children in tow a breeze. Just a 2 minute walk to access the supermarket, cafes, the family playground and water park located on the foreshore and not to mention the award winning bakery located at the front entrance. The staff were friendly and accommodating at all times. Really appreciated the staff turning the water sprinklers on the lawn to keep my children entertained in the afternoons as the heat was still in full force late in the afternoon made watching the kids play while cooking the BBQ in the entertainment area hassle free. We will definitely be back in the future. Thanks Team.

Good service, good food but terrible bed!

Reviewed By carlasB8204XE

Welcoming people, and understand that staff is probably strained hence the microwaved scrambled eggs at breakfast- so can be forgiving of that. All in all happy with price I paid via Grab One, clean and tidy with Sky Movies a bonus and a lovely evening meal delivered to our room. The bed was the biggest let down, think they could do with a serious update as bed was hard as rocks and both our backs, hips and shoulders ache a few days later still.

Fantastic Stay for a Family

Reviewed By kdloop

The couple managing the motel were so lovely and kind. The motel was a great base for our week long family holiday around Marlborough, we were in the 2 bedroom unit which was set up well for our family with its own private fenced courtyard being a huge plus. A portacot and highchair was supplied for our youngest. Warm heaters in each room (which were used on a couple wet and cold days) the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals (there was also a BBQ in the courtyard we could have used). The children were also given some Easter treats on arrival. Parking is a little bit tight when busy but easy enough to reverse out as there's a large area on the side of the road to turn around. We loved our stay and will likely be back again ?

Enjoyable

We had a room on the top floor overlooking the pool and views of the water and surrounding hills. There were 3 of us---Delightful setting, Bob and Glenda were excellent in providing us with everything we needed and more. Nice little extras in the room as in cold bubbles and choccies on arrival. Very easy to get along with and thoroughly enjoyed their company. They weren't all over us---just a great mixture of friendliness and enjoyment when we were there. Neat pool and spa---great brekky and the pub only a 5 minute walk away serving good food in Waikawa Marina. We stayed for 3 nights and would definitely stay again. Thanks Bob and Glenda.

Friendly B&B

Had a very pleasant three night stay here . It is right near the centre of town and just a short walk to cafes and restaurants. The breakfast is quite sufficient, the rooms very clean and I had a very large room with everything I needed, including a comfortable bed. There was a kettle in the room but no TV. I was upstairs and had to share a bathroom and toilet but never actually saw anyone else despite the place being full. Staff were very friendly and accomodating including when I turned up just before breakfast finished. I would recommend this as a place to stay if you are in Picton.
