Reviewed By Odile CLoved our few days at the Grunberg, lovely large room with large balcony overlooking the lake (decor a bit dated perhaps... but very clean and comfortable) ...opposite side of lake from main town, but very easy access, and great for walkers, cyclists, bathers (it has its own water access and grass area). Friendly, efficient staff, and managed by father and son team, excellent Austria specialities and cakes, great breakfast. Would love to go back again one day.

I would definetly highlight the location of the hotel, everything is easy to reach from here in the neighborhood. The breakfast was also excellent, everything was delicious and fresh. The view to the lake Traunsee is amazing! Strongly recommended! :)

Reviewed By 13312345I've been there for 2 nights. location excellent. lake view excellent too. the problem lies in the quality. when we checked in, the staff gave us the keys and asked us to complete the form. that's all. to her, check in was just so simple and she can't figure out what else she needs to tell us. so, I need to ask for wifi password, breakfast time, check out time, and if fan is available. she said yes, if we need. she suggested us to go to the room and check if we needed first. we called back soon and asked for a fan. she said yes but no one came. we asked again when we went out for dinner. they said yes again and they will bring it to our room when they are not so busy. we are back at 9pm and nothing happens. this time, the staff at the reception told us they didn't have fan at all and we were the first guest who asked for it ! she said in Austria hotels, they will not need fan nor air conditioning. I challenged her by telling her that I was in Austria for 1 week before I came here, and in all hotels I lived, either fan or air conditioning was available in the room. we also requested a kettle. they gave us one which was the dirtiest I have ever seen. there is dead bodies of insects inside, while the filter of it was blocked with brown pieces of dust. when I tried to clean it up, the out coming water was brown in color some of the facilities there were also ware out. the door to the balcony can't close up completely, and I can see nests of spraders in my room lastly, the sound proof is poor. we can even hear the sounds of television and human voices from our next room !

Great hotel
Reviewed By favdkI have stayed in this hotel for the 6th time and I don’t get tired of it. On the contrary, there is something new to discover every time I stay there. The proprietors are very proud of the hotel with a long history. Most of the rooms have been renovated, incl. new very comfortable beds, and new bathrooms. It is an old building in an old Austrian town, so expect quirky details. To get to the parking you have to be able to control your car, but nothing an experienced driver can’t manage. There is a disability parking space at the front of the hotel, on the market place. Breakfast is not to be missed, fresh bread, fresh organic-juices, organic (homemade) jams and mostly a fresh cake, baked by the Hostess. Looking forward to my next visit!

Our excursion tip: From Hois'n with the historic paddle steamer "Gisela" over the lake to Gmunden - with the gondola up to mountain "Grünberg" - through the forest trail to Laudachsee - descent to our restaurant & hotel Hois´n Wirt.

Reviewed By Carry SGreat location on the lake at Gmunden, the private beach area and food were excellent and all staff were friendly. The deluxe room was quiet as requested and private , very comfortable but lacked a few touches like cushions on sofa and proper seat pads for outdoor chairs. The bathroom and storage was great. We were celebrating our 40th and the only dissappoinment was no acknowledgement frlm hotel eg a complimentary drink, a card or flowers would have been appropriate and we have always received this elsewhere in Austria on much smaller anniversaries.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The owners were very nice reserving a place for us in a very good restuarents. Highly recommended.

Modern hotel with all amenities
Reviewed By jai8_LondonStayed for a wedding and had everything we needed. The hotel seems recently refurbished, is very clean and has comfortable beds. The communal areas are more traditional and comfortable and the breakfast spread had all the usual Austrian delicacies including some antipasti. The only negative was the des-interested and disorganised staff whose English was terrible.

Outstanding view, nice Location
Reviewed By SoCal_ItalyMy mother and I, we stayed at the Hotel Magerl for one week. The rooms are good in size, very clean, WIFI works, the view is outstanding overlooking the lake. It is a 15 minute stroll along the lake into town center. We traveled with the train, you do not necessarily need a car to enjoy Gmunden. There is also a bus stop right next to the Hotel that brings you into town. Breakfast is nice, typical Austrian - containing savory and sweet things...and of course the soft boiled eggs. There is also a private beach reserved for guests from Hotel Magerl which was very nice. Staff is very nice and helpful including the room maids, everyone speaks English. We will come again. Thank you for the nice experience.

Travelling back in time
Reviewed By Wojtek MThe gasthof is located pretty far from the lake. Room was clean and quite big and comfortable as for a gasthof. However furniture, bedroom and the whole interior of the gasthof are outdated - probably come form the eighties or the early nineties. Breakfast was OK, staff was friendly and helpful. There is a large car park for the guest near the gasthof. Quite disturbing is the kitchen smell, quite stron in the morning.

Lovely owner, room, view, and location
Reviewed By sfestatesOwner Barbra was very nice and professional. Even drove us to the train station when our taxi never arrived. We got the higher up room with a balcony. Lovely for sitting out and seeing the Traun River. Also had a kitchenette. Place is outside of town a little so quieter. It's a quick walk into town via the riverfront path (don't take the streets; they are steep).
