Great location. Wonderful staff. Clean rooms.

Reviewed By dotmommy

We had a wonderful hotel experience. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about their hotel - down to the temperature of their pool. Clean, spacious rooms. We had a full kitchen where we stored our snacks in the fridge and used the dishwasher for dirty dishes. We went to Courtenay for a gymnastics competition. The pool and hot tub were full of teenage girls and kids, so my husband and I didn’t hop in, but my girls had a blast swimming in a heated pool in the rain. Would stay here again! Thank you!

For a hotel that charges over $200/night, you'd think they would at least have an elevator, so two senior citizens didn't have to drag their heavy suitcases up the staircase late at night. First time we stayed in fall, 2021, the desk clerk said he could "find someone to help us" carry our bags up the stairs, but we were tired and had already had to wait for ages for someone to show up at the front desk, so we said not to bother. Second time we stayed in spring, 2022, the desk clerk did not even mention the fact that there is no elevator to the second floor and did not offer to find someone to help us carry our bags. We are a couple in our mid-sixties and made our reservations at least a week in advance. We won't be staying at The Westerly again. I can't believe we actually stayed after the first time, but the two better hotels in the area had no rooms available for the dates we needed.

Comfortable and clean

This was a great place to stay in advance of our ferry journey back to the Sunshine Coast. Good position for Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland and a chance to briefly explore the area. It's not opulent but clean and comfortable. Good access to vehicle. It was hard to find accommodation at short notice and this property stepped up. Given inflation and high costs associated with other hotels/motels, costs were not out of line.

We absolutely love this place! We stayed 6 years ago when we were on Vancouver Island & had a wonderful time & when we visited again it was the first place on our 'to stay' list. Fair enough, there will be plusher places you could stay near to Courtenay, and if that's what you want then fine but you will have missed out! The rooms are simple but the beds are comfortable ... and if you love somewhere with real character then make the effort and head down Lake Trail Road to here. What this place has that nowhere else has is Bonnie! We love her. She is so welcoming. If you are lucky you might get to sample some of her home-made wines. I know Strawberry & Rhubarb doesn't sound that promising but it was really good, as was the Apple. Then there are the dogs who will happily go on walks with you ... as wimpish Brits worried about bears this was very reassuring. It is an excellent base for exploring the wider area. We will most definitely stay again if we return.
