At the top of Bavaria and dating back to at least the 11th century, Coburg sat undiscovered by many late 20th century tourists, surrounded as it was on three sides by the former East Germany. The town’s main attraction, impossible to miss since it overlooks the town, is the 13th century Veste Coburg Castle, one of Germany’s largest and most beautiful. Sometimes called the Franconian Crown, today it’s home to three museums. Reformer Martin Luther, then an outlaw, spent five months here in 1530.

We were in the area for just one night and picked the small hotel by chance. It is an old mill building that has been completely redone. Everything looks nice, clean and inviting. There is ample parking, the staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean - ours had a nice view at the little stream running by. The rooms are big enough and - the hotel being very much in the countryside - very quiet. Everything was very clean, with tea and coffee facilities. There is no mini bar, but we did not miss it. The breakfast buffet is not too big, but offers a wide range of things, everything with really good quality. We really enjoyed breakfast. We did not have lunch or dinner, but the menu looks promising.

What a wonderful experience. Ok Corona is still in their veins but! I was made to feel so welcome. Breakfast lady went the extra mile even though we had fun communicating. The highlight was the house Hound. Worthy of her place in Royal Coburg. Thanks for looking after me so well. I am already looking forward to my next visit!!!

This is a no frills hotel without an front desk and no elevator. But it was quiet and my room was large and well appointed. The bathroom was just fine. The location could not have been better. What is not to like? For some people it is a bit of a rabbit warren - no long hallways with uniform rooms. The literature says there is a common area wash machine and dryer but I could not find it. It is in a pedestrian zone and the parking is a few hundred yards away. On the other hand, I ended up paying 2 Euros for the parking place. So I would stay here again. For what it is, it is excellent. It is NOT a 4, 3 or 2 star hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights with my family and can wholeheartedly recommend to stay there. Service and rooms were excellent, staff went the extra mile to make sure that Covid restrictions were enforced and even turned them into something special. As a bread basket wasn't allowed, you got to choose your bread roles in advance and they were delivered in a paper bag with a little saying on it. This and other little surprises made us feel very welcome - a fantastic eye for lovely details. We had booked the arrangement with vouchers for several sights which worked like a treat. All in all, one of the best hotel experiences I had. Thank you.

Lovely breakfast, hotel feels brand new (it might be?). Our group of pilots landed in Coburg and this was the only hotel available, but we were not disappointed. Rooms were spacious and beds were very comfortable. Check-in was a bit confusing and we had a bit of a grumpy manager having us to redo every letter on the check-in contract form until he was VERY SURE he could read every hand written letter on it. Very thorough he was, it must be said. But don't let that discourage you. It's a nice place.

Minimalistic rooms that have hard floors that they make them cold and noisy. Small elevators and challenging stairs to walk to your room. Hotel is located near the central market square. Breakfast was excellent with amazing breads and jams. The breakfast brings this 3 star hotel to a 4 star.

My wife and I stayed here for the second time visiting Coburg and the fortress, Veste Coburg (http://www.kunstsammlungen-coburg.de/en/index.php). Hotel - Gasthof Löhnert is located in an easy to find, quiet neighborhood just west of downtown Coburg. The rooms are very clean and the beds are very comfortable. My wife and I slept well! The downstairs restaurant serves a wonderful Frühstück and other delicious meals - I could easily get very fat eating meals here! Hotel - Gasthof Löhnert is an easy 8 minutes from downtown Coburg and 14 minutes to the fortress and museum, Veste Coburg. When visiting Coburg, you have to visit the historic, downtown marketplace and try the legendary Coburger Bratwurst with Brötchen and Senf!!! It's excellent with a local pilsner!
