Galerie-Hotel Bad Reichenhall

What a pleasant surprise and stay!

Reviewed By Debby F

We come to Bad Reichenhall every few years, as I have family who still lives here. My relatives go back four generations that they have lived in this beautiful city. I usually stay at the Axelmannstein Hotel, as it's a tradition. Imagine my shock when I pulled up, with a paid reservation, and they had closed down a week prior for a much needed renovation!! I frantically looked for a place to stay, and found this hotel. First, let me say that they very welcoming and accommodating. Parking was no problem, as it was early November (very off season) and there were hardly any hotel guests. The location is perfect! We literally walked outside, turned left and right through the gate to the beautiful park. How awesome is that?! The room was spotlessly clean. There's a Nespresso machine, a small refrigerator with complimentary mineral waters. The carpet is thin, and there's no padding underneath, but that didn't deter us. The bathroom was very large and very clean. The only criticism I have is that there are no shelves in the shower, since I always bring my own hair care products. I had to set them above the toilet and open the shower doors each time I needed to shampoo or conditioner. I made it work. Daily housekeeping was very thorough. The breakfast was also a traditional German assortment of cold cuts, cheeses (my fave), fruits, veggies, cereals and breads. I loved the coffee machine, where I could have a daily cup (or two) of Cappuccino. The dining area is very charming, with lovely prints of Bad Reichenhall. It was always spotlessly clean and the staff was very friendly. Though I speak German, my husband does not. They were kind enough to speak English to him. The neighborhood where this hotel is located is really lovely and very quiet. There are other small "boutique" hotels and some residential homes. We felt very safe walking around at night. In fact, we walked to the train station-- less than a 5 minute pleasant walk on a regular basis. There we shopped at Aldis, there are little Imbiss restaurants and the tourist center. The location is really great! The price was very affordable, too. We would definitely come back here and I recommend this hotel to anyone.

Although this pension has a better rating then most of the four star hotels in the area one must realize not all the rooms are as nice sd shown on the photos and the describion. Our room was small and could have been equipped better however spotless. The bed was extremely soft thus uncomfortable for us. Breakfast was good but definitely not exceptional. Next time we will make a booking at a hotel. Probably as a B & B it is superior however as priced as a four star hotel.

Modern clean hotel

Great modern hotel with fantastic view of mountains. Unfortunately no parking spaces left and had to pay to park on the road. Enjoyed the view from the room and it was a nice room with great shower. Rate included breakfast but it was not that good. There were lots of meats and cheeses, but the cooked food was minimal. There may have been extras that you could order for a fee ( such as eggs , bacon) but the waitress did not explain this to us and there were no menus in English explaining this. As a vegetarian I was very disappointed by the options. So I just had some cereal. You were able to pay €5 to take some food to go. I asked to do this and was told to wait 10 minutes. 15 minutes later I asked again and was told to wait another 5 minutes. Don’t know what I was waiting for, so I cancelled ( we were in a hurry to leave) the staff at breakfast were not friendly at all. Was able to leave our bags there for the day which was very helpful. The hotel is facing a few restaurants and is in a convenient location to local shops.

Very basic but in a great neighborhood

Our hotel we had booked turned out to be closed for renovations. We didn't find out until we arrived to check in and it was closed for renovations (Axelmannstein). In a panic, I booked this place for one night, so we'd have a place to sleep. The young woman at the desk was very nice. Parking is underground, for a fee. Once I unlocked our room, my face fell. The room was clean, but very sparse. The painted cinder block walls were a turn off. The safe was old school (using a key). The bathroom was very clean. We were hungry and tired, so we ate at their restaurant (25Euros each). Yikes! The food was very average with a very limited selection-- dry and overcooked duck for the main course. Salads, breads and rice pudding for dessert (my husband won't eat it, but I will). The server was very gracious and kind, I have to say. The bed was comfortable, but I knew we wouldn't stay here for our remaining six day stay. Later that day, I commented to my cousin that the room felt like a hostel (he is born and raised here). He said that the place actually once was a hostel! As far as cleanliness goes, this hotel gets five stars. It just wasn't the caliber of place I prefer. While it's located in a very nice neighborhood, it's not conveniently located to the downtown area that I prefer.

Pleasant stay

Reviewed By JammyDodgr

I felt overall this place was a good value 3 night stay. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with sprucing up and a makeover, but our mountain view room was sizeable and as the name suggests, came with a pretty mountain view. The beds could have been more comfortable though and the old carpet just has to go! Breakfast was varied and pretty good quality. The guy doing the eggs was pleasant and helpful. My only disappointment was their lack of croissants. But this was probably the best breakfast we'd had in the numerous Bavarian hotels we'd stayed in this holiday. Staff were also polite and helpful. Main feedback: please stop people smoking right in front of the hotel, it is not only incredibly inconsiderate (my fiancee has asthma, so if only you could feel what she does when breathing in smoke) but it just makes the whole environment disgusting and makes the hotel look cheap and dirty. Just stop.

Better than expected

Three stars do not do this lovely and well appointed hotel justice. Yes, it has no fridges or baths in the rooms, but apart from that it is absolutely top class. We stayed for a week during a "mini reunion" with some old university friends and were absolutely amazed at the standard of the accommodation, restaurant and relaxation facilities. We had "half board" which is usually breakfast and dinner, but a light lunch, usually soup and tasty "left overs" from the previous dinner were also available. Not only were the common areas spacious and comfortable but the sporting and relaxation facilities were amazing! A whole world has been created under the two main buildings with a magnificent heated swimming pool, saunas, spas, gymnasium, playroom for the kids and even a bowling alley. The young couple who run this family hotel with their parents and their excellent staff made sure that we wanted for nothing. The location is breathtaking and we could not think of a single thing that could be improved.

Nice hotel, locates on quiet street, several minutes only walk to Kurhouse and Wander halle - main resort park and gallery. Hotel provides good breakfast. There is no lift in building, for one who has physical problems - ask room on lower floor ( upper floor rooms are renovated). Hotel provides free parking, but very narrow, it is difficult to maneuver on parking lot.

Beautiful place for total relaxation

One of the most important differentiators of that hotel is the LIFT. That is not very common for the hotels of that size, but it is very important. You do not have to haul your suitcase up or down the stairs, and rooms at all floors are easily accessible even by people using wheelchairs. The hotel is located in a very green and quiet area, within 15-minute walk from the railway station and literally across the street from Rupertus Therme making its use very convenient. The center of the town and the key tourist attractions could also be easily reached by foot. The hotel is not very large, decorated in traditional style, and there is really family atmosphere. The owners and the staff are really friendly and helpful. They are eager to provide relevant information and actually prepared to do their best to make your stay even more comfortable. My room was quite large. I believe it could easily accommodate 3 adults or a family with 2 kids. In addition, there was a small kitchen with all the basic appliances.
