Terrible and awful

Reviewed By RuhiSayyed

We had made our reservation through booking.com for two nights stay and as we clicked confirm booking, immediately deducted the entire funds, while there was no mention of any such deductions and it was almost a month in advance. Though they kept insisting that the same is mentioned in fine prints but failed to show us when asked. We decided to shorten our trip and requested them to cancel the booking, long before the reserved dates to which they flatly refused to refund a single penny saying accounts/finance will have an issue. Anyway, out of much reluctance we decided to visit the hotel and found it overhyped. Rooms are exceptionally small with an awful smell in the rooms. We requested them to change the room after trying to bear with the smell as our daughter complained of it too and we were asked to shift to the adjoining room. All this while, the hotel had only one more room occupied, as informed to us by the reception. So the new room had the same issue and finding it impossible to bear with the smell we decided to check out the next morning and again requested them to refund for at least one night. And they had the audacity to tell us that since we had used the other room for more than an hour or two, they could not sell it to anyone else, all this in an empty hotel. Their attitude was rude, un-accommodating and simply disgusting. I would highly recommend checking many other good hotels with better amenities and polite staff.

Great independent hotel

Reviewed By MattHM

Booked this hotel based on previous trip advisor reviews and it being the number one hotel. Was not disappointed at all. Friendly welcome and offered a choice of rooms. We were given a suite on the third floor, overlooking the sports pitches. The bed was huge and so comfy. Great pillows and the mattress was perfect too. Had two very good nights sleep. Shower was hot and powerful enough. Plenty of good quality towels provided. Along with complimentary toiletries. Room was cleaned to a high standard. There is a free safe. There is also a mini fridge stocked with some refreshments. Only a minor point, but the room lacked any complimentary water or tea & coffee facilities. Breakfast was filling with an offer of freshly prepared eggs too. Breads, hams, cheeses, cake, cereals, fruit and juices and freshly made coffee. Staff both mornings were very friendly and attentive. Hotel is in a great location to walk to the Lake in a couple of minutes and into the heart of the city in no more than 10/15 mins. We both want to come back in the summer and experience this city again and would definitely stay at the Dinasty Hotel again. Thank you

Excellent service and wonderful stay

Reviewed By wbatesy

Our first trip abroad post-pandemic, we had high hopes for this hotel - and it more than delivered! Located half an hour or so walk / 5-10 mins by taxi outside of the main Piazza in Durrës, you don’t get more beachfront than the Palace. There were bars, restaurants and supermarkets all nearby. They were communicative pre our arrival and ensured we had a transfer waiting. Our airline did not put one of our bags on the flight but the hotel helped chase this up the next day (we did eventually have it delivered to us.) The room was large enough for us, usual amenities and a very large bathroom but the main selling point was the fantastic view - it couldn’t be beaten, overlooking the pool and beach. The bar and restaurant were excellent and service good. The internet worked throughout for browsing and streaming, from the beach to the room and all of the public areas. Though the restaurant is more pricy than local restaurants, the food was of a high standard, they were adaptable and it was still very reasonably-priced by Western Europe standards. Breakfast for us was included and was more than adequate, having continental, Albanian and cooked options, buffet-style. We used the indoor pool and jacuzzi in the spa and had no complaints. As it was out of season, our little son was allowed to join us which was welcomed as the outdoor pool was still too cold to use despite being lovely to sit around. The private beach, perhaps because it was out of season, wasn’t really private. The sand was okay but rubbish did blow onto it. Next door, the hotel was being renovated and so there was building work going on. This didn’t impact us but it didn’t look particularly aesthetically pleasing. The sea is separated from the sand by a sea wall - probably a metre or so drop to the water. This was unusual for us but again didn’t affect us. Often, a ‘five star hotel’ doesn’t actually match up to a five star standard when visiting less touristy countries but the Palace probably was at the standard. The biggest difference between the Palace and other areas/establishments around Durrës was that the standard was being maintained throughout and not just a one-off thought or gesture. Though Albania is still someway away from being a go-to tourist destination - it’s still probably for more hardy or experienced travellers rather than your average holidaymakers - if you did choose to go there for a mini break, I’d 100% recommend staying at the Palace.

Goodbye to Tripadvisor

Reviewed By Compass457687

After more than 10 years as a frequent user of Tripadvisor, my conclusion is that it's not a credible platform any more. Here's my story: I stayed two nights at this hotel on August 9-11 with my wife and daughter, as they were then number 3 out of 171 hotels in Sarandë (now even number 2 out of 174, compliments!). After our stay my wife wrote a detailed review with photos, giving the hotel a well deserved 1 out of 5 (I'm generous giving it a 2). A couple of days later she told me her review had been removed. She wrote a new review of which I took a copy and a screenshot, but again it was removed. As I said, I've followed Tripadvisor's ratings for years, ignoring people and business owners claiming Tripadvisor isn't reliable. Apparently I have to admit I was wrong and stop using Tripadvisor. In substance, here's our experience from our stay: 1. Very dirty and untidy: the reception looks like a shabby camping site and unused stuff are piled around and also on the 6th floor (where the best rooms were). 2. No English speakers: majority of the staff doesn't speak/understand English, including in the restaurant, where it would have been mostly important. 3. Terrible breakfast: hardly edible + non-existent service to clean/refill the breakfast board. 4. Lousy service: you'll find yourself waiting for the receptionist to show up, and if you ask around they tell you to sit and wait. Swimming pool is great, but then again, the path to go to the beach (running below the swimming pool) is poorly maintained and dirty. Same goes for the deckchairs around the swimming pool area. As if all this wasn't enough, I was billed twice, not once, first 330€ for the two days on the day of check-in and then again 330€ on the day of check-out. I contacted the hotel afterwards, and this was their answer, with their spelling errors: “As far as we know we haven't charge your card manually at all. Anyway, please sent us the document that verifies the transaction and we will verify it in our system”. I sent a bank extract as evidence but received the same reply again. Had I not then contacted both my card issuer and Booking.com (where you can find reliable reviews about the hotel, N.B.!) I would probably never have got my money back. The most disappointing thing in all this isn't the bad experience of the hotel (unless my review is removed, I'm sure the hotel will refute everything I write, I've seen this with other critical comments, they can't accept any criticism) but the fact that my wife's reviews were removed not once but twice. This cannot have been done by the hotel but by Tripadvisor, without first contacting my wife, nor informing her of the reasons. Because of this, I haven't used Tripadvisor any more during my trips during the past three months. If this review is withdrawn as well, then I just can say goodbye Tripadvisor, you lost my confidence completely.

Good location but that is all

Reviewed By A_Traveller122

Obviously very good location right next to the Skandebeg square in the absolute central of Tirana. Somewhat good relatively large selection of breakfast and in evening turn into restuarant with balcony with outside seating facing offering an excellent view over Skandebeg square and city skyline. That is about all things I liked about this hotel. Unfortunately got a room that was full of discrepancies such as broken window (cold temperature, outside sound disturbances), WiFi connection very fluctuating, constantly dropping, at times offline for hours on end and very weak signal overall only decent in close proximity to the door and out of range when seated in main armchair. There is a good solid and above standard length bath tub which I as an above average height +2m person really enjoyed, but unfortunately the toiletries gave me a red rash in the face. Only one power outlet electricity socket. Very old dated and small TV with small selection of International satellite TV-channels. Very old and scratched broken wooden floor that is very squeaky, in fact woke up several times in middle of night due to other guests in room above just walked stepped on their floor. Very fluctuating quality and performance of house keeping which came and woke me up at 9 o'clock in the morning several times, but did not clean the room until late afternoon and one time opened up the door and walked in on me while I was naked. Allthough the location is excellent and offers great city view in both directions it is quite disturbing, especially as I got a room with a window that did not shut properly, with the very close proximity to the mosque in Skandebeg square whose call for prayer loudspeakers will wake you and keep you up at night. In alles very in doubt this hotel really is 4* would consider it 3* at best. Heavily overpriced and relies on long lost glory from it's 1970s heyday. There are several other much better hotel options in this city with 5* offering much more value for money, with modern stylish up to western european standard quality hotel rooms.

A great family run hotel

Reviewed By _steph91986

A gem of a hotel in Gjirokaster. This hotel is set conveniently located above the old city. The rooms are very clean and quite large. Decor is done in a vintage style which gives a lot of character. The family that runs this hotel is so sweet and helpful. The main highlight of the hotel was the breakfast. They hand made even the jam and the fried dough. So delicious! Price was excellent value for the quality. Of note, if driving, please do not follow Google maps. The directions took us up a VERY steep and narrow street, where our car got stuck. The hotel is aware of Google maps giving incorrect instructions. Please reach out to hotel if driving to get correct directions to avoid narrow roads (there is a main road that goes to the hotel). There is ample parking outside of the hotel.
