May 2, 2022 Kandra Bartel

Lazio (UK: /ˈlætsioʊ/, US: /ˈlɑːtsioʊ/; Italian: [ˈlatsjo]; Latin: Latium) is one of the 20 administrative regions of Italy. Situated in the central peninsular section of the country, it has almost 5.9 million inhabitants – making it the second most populated region of Italy (after Lombardy and just a little ahead of Campania) – and its GDP of more than 170 billion euros per annum means that it has the nation's second largest regional economy. The capital of Lazio is Rome, which is also Italy's capital and the country's largest city.

Antica Torre - Riding Ancient Rome

Our stable is located in the heart of Ancient Rome, on the Appian Way and we are the only one allowed to organize horseback ride along the Queen of Road! You can reach our stable with a 20mins taxi from the Colosseum or also with public transport. If you love horses, nature and history, a walk on horseback along the spectacular Appian Way and surrounding Park will be an experience you will never forget. With expert guides and horsemen, Sandro Bernardini and Andrea, you will see archeological treasures, some of which would be difficult to reach except on horseback. Sandro’s family has been in the area for over a century and he is a knowledgable guide, well versed in history as well as local lore. With 20 years of experience in equestrian tourism, we have created itineraries for all tastes and levels of riding experience (including none!)

I recently booked a horse and guide for a two hour ride along the Via Appia. I owned and rode horses as a kid, but it has been awhile since I've been riding. This was such a great experience. Lorella made it so easy to book the ride via email. The stable is a quick taxi ride from the center of Rome, but in reality a world away. It is calm and peaceful, and the countryside surrounding Rome is indeed tranquil. I was paired with a horse who knew his way around and was a little frisky in his old age. Sandro, my guide, was really knowledgeable about all of the architecture and history along the Via Appia; he was a perfect guide. Our afternoon was capped by eating lunch in the barn made by the owner's grandma. This meal was fresh, delicious, and quintessentially Roman. It was a wonderful way to end our time at the stable. I could not think of a better way to spend a day in Rome than this.
