We found this port shop following other reviews a few years ago and it was absolutely amazing. This was then a must do on our latest visit. Jorge has a fantastic knowledge of Portuguese wines and port In particularly, he is completely fluent in English. We bought wines during our stay, he made some great recommendations for us to bring home. As we have drunk them all during lockdown we went online to order more to be delivered to the UK. It was fantastically easy. Jorge dispatched them the next day and they were here within the week. We will be using this service again... and again. If you are in Porto we strongly reccomend a visit. If you love port wine these are the people t speak to.

Luvaria Ulisses

Reviewed By alisony213 - Minnesota, United States

The Luvaria Ulisses was not ordinary shop for all kinds of reasons. First, it was tiny, having the capacity for one, or maybe two folks in it at a time. Then, it was beautiful, all adorned with red and gold ornamental design. And three, the gloves were stunning. My sister was taken care of by the proprietor, who placed her elbow on a round padded pillow, made especially for the elbows of glove-tryer-oners. Then the saleswoman looked at my sister's hand and could immediately tell what size she was. Impressive. A box was taken out of this long narrow hallway that went back into the shop. George pointed out that it reminded him very much of Olivander’s wand shop in Happy Potter. So true! So the gloves were extracted and then “opened” by the lady with this tool that looked like a large wooden tweezer thing. She stuck it in every finger of the glove and popped them open. And then finally, the glove was placed on the waiting hand. And they fit, well, like a glove. Finally the newly purchased gloves were placed in a satiny bag, which was then placed in a fancy shopping bag, and then given to my sister. All of this was fascinating and very very fun to watch. Loved this shop, even though I wasn't the purchaser!

An "alternative" little gallery, set in an old warehouse in the heart of "port-land". We went for the port tasting and found a welcoming host and a fine sample of ports and cheeses. We chose the "basic" and "advanced" selections to share, along with two rustic cheeses from northern Portugal, tastefully presented. Our six ports, with the cheese cost approx 16 euros. We then browsed among the ethnic craft items, created by unassuming local arists and craftspersons, and bought presents for the family. Difficult to find but do persevere - such a friendly, welcoming ambience, as with so much of Porto.

The shop was stunning, worth a visit just to have a look. But the staff are great, we had our two children with us (4&7) and she got out a selection of biscuits and let them try them all. They were very generous, very knowledgeable and when wrapping everything up took great care with it all. Would definitely recommend a visit to pick up your Madeira cake.
