The 10 best Cottages in Sardinia, Italy

April 27, 2023 Weston Hennigan

The second-largest island in Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia serves up a lovely blend of sea, sand and history. Thousands of nuraghe (stone buildings) dot the landscape, proof that people have been enjoying the lovely climate here for millennia. From posh Costa Smerelda in the north to medieval Alghero in the northwest to the lively capital of Cagliari in the south, and with many picturesque towns and unspoiled sandy beaches in between, Sardinia’s got a little something for everyone.

It a peacefull enviorment where they make their own wines. The wines but also the dinner is delicous. Breakfast with fresh local products is a party. We recommend a stay in this fqntastic place.

Las Palmas Alghero

Outrageous

Reviewed By barts315

Despite having booked on February 2nd we found our room given away upon arrival. Hardly through the fence, not even out of the car, an old lady came to tell we had to go away. The hotel was overbooked and we had to go somewhere else down the road. No explanation, not even an apology. Obviously all in Italian, English or any other language,is not spoken. We were appalled as we had informed the exact time of our arrival only just the day before and just got as reply “ok”. Never any word of potential overbooking... allthough they must have known this the evening before ?! The place we were sent too is a very badly rated hotel (not a b&b), apparently often used for overbookings... As I speak some Italian but prefer to speak English to not have misunderstandings I could hear the local staff comment the situation. Seems this is not the first time Las Palmas is pulling these tricks. When they get a better deal/ longer stay they sent other customers away. Preferably people who do not speak Italian so they cannot argue and reluctantly have to accept the offered alternative. The alternative is a cabin in the nearby hotel. Not a room near the hotel building, but a cabin some 2 km up the mountain, at the end of a dirt road. The cabin is very small, just a bed fits in, bathroom is some 2 square meter, claustrophobic and overall has seen better times. Tiny (and only) window near the roof, curtain hanger hanging down broken... Judging from the surroundings it seems personnel is accomodated over there, as are their pets, as no less than five barking dogs come running towards us when we got out of the car. Clearly they were not used to see many unknown guests... No bad word of the staff of this hotel. They understood we did not want to stay and even called around some other b&b’s in the area to check for availability, not an easy task in July... Clearly they are familiar with this situation and even showed some compassion for their latest Las Palmas victims. We have not heard anything from Las Palmas since, not even a simple “sorry”; we even had to contact booking.com to recuperate our downpayment, guaranteed already in February... We are honest working people, our only holiday per year is a big deal to us. We never experienced this kind of treatment before and want to warn other travellers for the Las Palmas way of dealing with customers.

The place you feel like home

Reviewed By Shavlick

I landed @Zietto by pure coincidence, based only on a review found on the internet. I came in late because my transfer from Olbia was delayed and when I finally arrived I met Zietto in person, a big man with a big heart. What do you expect when landing in a b&b? Comfortable bed, clean facilities, good breakfast? Additionally if you need to rent a bike, a scooter - Zietto will help you. All of this is just a small part of what you get @Zietto. The host himself took care of touring us through Dorgali and showed us his "church", the cellar, he was the one to be around us @breakfast time and bring all the fresh goodies. He was the one to collect us on the road when we got stuck on the road in the night . I could go in more details, but this would be already a full novel :) To summarize : what you get @Zietto is genuine sincere and good. Thank you, Zietto! I will be coming back.

Spacious room, good bed, centrally located, nice breakfast, perfect cookies and marmalades made by david’s mother. Rooms are cleaned daily. Absolutely worth a stay when in Sardegna. Only thing we missed was a glass in the bathroom, but that was a minor, minor thing!

Old town B&B

Reviewed By Gandolfa

Tiny B&B within a traditional old house in the very heart of Alghero. You can visit Alghero literally walking. Hosts are super kind, friendly and really oriented to please guests as much as they can. Place spotless clean. To be considered: no heating in winter, though fan coil can help, yet not ideal - extremely noisy and not particularly healthy; rooms very dark; very difficult stairs; breakfast really average. Please also note that the place is not reachable by car as it is within the old town “ZTL”. I would assume parking in summer might be a challenge, while not a problem in winter.
