Freddie, our amazing guide, was the best part. We arrived by cruise ship, 2 hour late. He waited and reorganized our tour so we missed only one small thing I can't even remember. We saw everything else including lions and hippos after the best time with the Zulu performance. I would give him more stars if I could. At the end of the tour, his boss called to make sure we were taken care of. When I spoke to him, he pretty much said it went so well because we had Freddie. Freddie knew every nuance of our visits....how much time to allow, what to pass over more quickly, where to spend the most time. Thanks to all of you.

Explore, indulge and dream amongst the gentle hills and warm-hearted people who call the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands home. The Midlands Meander route is situated between the city of Pietermaritzburg in the East and the majestic uKhahlamba Drakensberg mountain range (a World Heritage Site) in the West, in the uMgungundlovu district, one of eight regions of the ‘Zulu Kingdom’. Walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela  as you journey to the rustic place where he was captured more than 50 years ago. The Nelson Mandela capture site is now a powerful and poignant memorial to a critical moment in South African history – and the start of Mandela’s 27 years in captivity. Be mesmerized by the beauty of Howick Falls, take a walk along a trail and spend time at some of the intriguing shops to be found in Howick.

We booked this tour for six people. The company replied immediately to our email and were very helpful. Our guide and driver, Zamani, picked us up from our hotel and spent the day with us. He was truly brilliant. Really knowledgeable, kind, and a fantastic driver. Some of the roads were quite tricky but we felt really safe with him. He even organised lunch for us at the Rorke’s Drift hotel which was first-class. When we arrived at the battlefields we were met by a specialist guide but, to be honest, I think Zamani could have done this part of the tour as well (and probably better). All in all, it was an excellent day and we would highly recommend a visit with this company.

Our tour of Durban, a bustling metropolis, often called the cultural ‘melting pot’ of South Africa, includes a drive through the sports corridor with its impressive sporting facilities to the Blue Lagoon area on the Umgeni River where you get a panoramic view of the whole bay of Durban. Then past the so-called Apartheid Beaches, the Marine Parade (Golden Mile) where you will see the rickshaws, en route to the impressive developments at the new Point Waterfront area. We drive past the busiest harbour in Africa and various historical monuments, and then through the city centre where the original Railway Station building, the City Hall and the Post Office buildings each have a story to tell. We stop at the Indian Market where you get a glimpse into the Indian culture and bargain for souvenirs and spices. Our last visit is to the Botanical Gardens with its extensive collection of trees and plants from all over the world, as well as a famous cycad collection and orchid garden.

Wonderful journey. Due to almost suspense of tourism at covid I was alone and all attention was for me like in personal VIP tour. Pickup and return on-time. Car and SUV were comfy. SUV driver is high professional in hard and dangerous mountain road. Zamani is knowing guide and also good driver. Both are great interlocutors. I saw some places in Durban and pleasant landscapes, towns and animals on the way. Sani Pass has impressionable mountains, gorges, rivers, waterfalls and plants. I watched the village in Lesotho with it's special countrylife and highest pub in Africa. And we were so lucky with our sunny trip just after that the weather changed to rainy. I'm extra satisfied! High recommendations! Many thanks! Ngibona kakhulu!

TLDR; this is a tremendous experience for the adventurous traveler; if you have an open mindset about meeting new people, enjoy hiking and the outdoors, and don't mind an occasionally rough ride, this is an incredible trip and well worth your time. Having never traveled outside the US, I wanted to go big on my first solo trip with the 62-day excursion from Pretoria to Nairobi. Since it was such an extensive trip, I was looking for the most value for my time, based on price, activities, and safety. I backpack often, so beyond basic comfort was not a priority for me, which turned out to be a good mindset to adopt since we camped nearly the entire trip, & rode in a truck with no AC (Namibia gets hot!). Tip - be ready to retrieve the rain fly for your tent during unexpected 3 AM rain showers! However, nearly all of the sites we stayed at had the option to upgrade from camping to comfortable indoor accommodations, which was a nice option to take advantage of occasionally. Once we reached our site for the night, we began our daily rotating duties, which included helping to cook, clean the truck, and do dishes, which I think added to the experience and helped bond our fellow tourists. Traveling solo, I felt safe at all times with our guides, drivers, and locations. My trip was split between two guides, Crispen, then Pete, and they were great company that looked out for us and kept us safe and informed about everything around us. Our guides were familiar with the paths and knew everyone at our destinations. Nothing surprised them. Our drivers were impressive as well, with Harmony and Francis keeping us safe on the often-tumultuous African roads. Navigating both urban and off-road environments in our trucks was no easy task, and Francis even proved his mechanic skills during the occasional break-down. The variety of locations we stayed at were simply incredible. From Cape Town to the deserts of Namibia, the Okavango Delta to Zanzibar Island, the mixture of urban and remote landscapes couldn't have been better. We saw every animal you can imagine. On a trip like this, an open mindset is key. Traveling for two months with strangers can go any number of ways, but due to this trip, I now have lifelong friends scattered across the globe that I can't wait to visit. This wasn't just a vacation, it was a lasting, eye-opening experience that I believe everyone should try if possible. I can't recommend this trip enough. I wish I could go back to January and do it all over again.

This is a long day travelling from Durban, easily 4 hours but was worth it. The guide was excellent and very chatty. They played an audio tape on the drive there explaining the history and events leading up to Rorkes Drift. Fascinating story. If you have the time, I'd definitely recommend the trip, we even got to see giraffes and zebras!
