The 10 Best Budget-friendly Things to do in Hangzhou, Zhejiang

July 11, 2021 Roseanne Arnett

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of the seven ancient capitals of China. It was described by Italian traveler Marco Polo as the finest and most luxurious city in the world. The West Lake scenic area contains over 60 cultural relic sites and several attractions of natural beauty, and a cruise on the lake is a good option to view several sites. Hangzhou is also a good place to visit a tea plantation.

Past the perfectly manicured tea groves of a picturesque country lane is the home of Hangzhou's amazing ancient Feilai Feng scenic area and Lingyin Buddhist Temple. Countless perfectly detailed reliefs, statues, and buddhas are carved eveywhere into the mountainside amongst tall beautiful trees, caves, pathways, and a quiet stream. Would have loved to spend many more hours exploring the site but moved along with my family to tour the Buddha statues and structures of the Lingyin Temple. The scenic area is one of the must peaceful settings I've ever experienced. Not far away though near the entrance you're back to civilization with many small shops, restaurants, not one, but two separate Starbucks, and most importantly...a Western styled ladies room!

I arrived in Hangzhou on November 12th with my friends. It was the first time I went to Hangzhou and it's definitely not the last time.On the morning of November 13th,we visited many scenic spots and what impressed me most was West Lake. There was antique and beautiful scenery. The Three Pools Mirroring the Moon was a wonderful sight, which made me marvel at it.At night,33 moons could be seen here!We visited the Leifeng Pagoda and listened to the guide tell us the stories about it.We learned about ancient Chinese culture there.I think it's very meaningful to visit the West Lake.Tips:When you go to the West Lake, the boat tour is a must.Hangzhou is rainy,so you'd better take the clothes and an umbrella. If you need to take photos, take a camera with you.

Interesting Buddha sculptures at the beginning of the Linjiang Temple complex. They’re included in the Temple ticket. We especially liked the fat laughing Buddha and there was an sign with an explanation in English.

National Tea Museum

Reviewed By BillPNo1 - Friendswood, United States

While in Hangzhou, we were treated to a very informative and interesting visit to the Tea Plantation at the National Tea Museum. We were able to view every stage off the tea growing and processing, preparing and consuming process. We saw the tea bushes growing in their orderly rows, covering the hillsides and mountains; and then up close where we were able to pick our own little tealet sprigs after our guide explained what we were looking for while picking the tiny new shoots. Inside, we were able to view the processing operation and then at large table around the demo room, we were instructed in the proper way to prepare and consume green tea.For someone, who had previously only dunked a tea bag (floor sweepings!) into boiling water, it was very informative and interesting. Leave some time in your visit to see the tea plantation.
