Enoshima Island

Reviewed By DevelopmentTraveller - Tokyo, Japan

Easily done in a day if you’re based in Tokyo. Enoshima Island is fun and easy to get to on the Odakyu Line/Romance Car. The island sports a series of interesting shrines that are nestled in the serene beauty of the wooded island. There is a lot of walking involved on this island, though you can opt to take an escalator to the top shrine on the island for a few (¥370). Regardless, expect to walk. A lot.

Enoshima Iwaya Caves

We loved the cave and how it was created as well as they myth of the cave and dragon. The cave was beautiful and a must see. This is not accessible with a stroller or wheelchair as their are LOTS of stairs. Lots of bathrooms on way as well as many things to see on the way and stop and eat!

Enoshima Shrine

Reviewed By DevelopmentTraveller - Tokyo, Japan

Be prepared for a trek - this series of three shrines are located progressively higher and higher on the Enoshima Island hill. The seemingly endless climbing of stairs is worth it though! The shrines are beautiful, set within the serene forest of Enoshima. The shrines also sport some impressive views! Well worth the hike! For those who want to skip the exercise, a pay-to-use escalator is available. Come early. This island is popular and can get crowded.

Enoshima Sea Candle

Reviewed By P5264PYjohna - Melbourne, Australia

Go in the afternoon, walk to the caves then make your way up to the viewing platform for sunset. Candle and gardens cost 700yen. Otherwise, buy a 1000yen ticket that includes the elevator ride to the Sea Candle. Go up the Candle, take in the views and when you hear the "illumination" announcement (in japanese) move to the front where you can see the gardens. Then wait for the countdown before the lights are switched on. Masses of led lights!!!
