I have spend a lot of time here this summer as it is an excellent place to take children for a few hours out. The adventure playground is relatively new and excellent for children over 5. There are lots of great woodland walks in the area. The staff at the visitor centre are very helpful and the Raven cafe which has been operating a take away service during the Covid pandemic is perfect for a drink, snack or even a meal. There are plenty of benches and bins which seem to be emptied regularly as they are never overflowing and thankfully there does not seem to be much litter about the place. There are also plenty of toilet facilities which from my experience have always been immaculate.

Bedwellty House and Park

Reviewed By Lexxx82 - Cardiff, United Kingdom

I was looking for somewhere to take my Mum where we could do a socially-distanced wander. Current Welsh COVID rules as of April 2021 mean people can meet outside and there is no geographical restraint on travel within Wales. I needed somewhere within an hour’s drive of Cardiff (check), parking (check - nearby free parking), toilets (check), tea/coffee/snacks (check), space to wander/enough to entertain us for at least an hour (check), not too crowded (check). Bedwellty House had everything I needed with the added bonus of beautiful surroundings and plenty of open space and fresh air. The staff were friendly and the facilities well cared for. The other visitors were relaxed and seemed to really respect and appreciated the surroundings. The main house was closed at the time of our visit, but in fair weather there is plenty of outside exploring to be done. The grotto is an absolute gem. We ordered drinks from the tea room hatch (dine in options aren’t permitted at time of writing) and sat on one of the many picnic benches on the lawn. Cakes and other bites were also available. The site is on a gentle slope and all outdoor facilities looked to have good accessibility for mobility impaired visitors. A few disabled parking spots were available just inside the main entrance gate.

Festival Park Owl Sanctuary

Reviewed By 298sadiep

Whilst visiting the area for a short break we made a stop at the owl sanctuary on our last morning and we are so glad that we did! As it was just open we were the only people there and Malcolm kindly showed us round all of the birds in the sanctuary, telling us a bit about each of them. Over 70 different birds, including owls, peregrine falcons, eagles and other birds of prey which were so lovely to see. Malcolm and the other volunteers are all clearly very passionate about the birds and their care and Malcolms knowledge was amazing. Surprisingly the sanctuary is free to enter and they rely on donations to help care for all the birds so if you visit please give generously to them as they are doing a great job. Definitely worth a visit for both kids and adults alike as we were a group of 4 adults and loved it! The sanctuary is fairly small so is not somewhere you would spend several hours but is certainly worth a visit for an hour or a little longer . Keep up the great work and we will definitely visit again next time we are in the area! Just a note, park at the end of festival park and walk down as can be a bit fiddly to find but it's most definitely worth it.

I had my daughter's 7th Birthday party on Saturday at the Eden centre and what a good experience it was in the current times. She had a lovely time playing with her friends, it went smoothly and the staff was brilliant especially our party planner. We have had one there for the last 3 years running and would recommend to anyone looking to book a party they do everything and are very helpful.
