Festivals, studios, galleries, craft markets… Every cranny of this South Island city seems to buzz with artistic energy. Lord of the Rings fans will flip for the Jens Hansen workshop in Trafalgar Square—Hansen is the goldsmith who designed the “precious” guarded by Frodo in the LOTR films.

Clean and close to town, but outdated

Reviewed By B1767YSjulieb

We stayed here 3 nights at the end of Dec 2020. Whilst the rooms are very clean and tidy, the hosts are friendly and it is within walking distance to city it is outdated a little and the beds are below average. The shower is not height adjustable (tall person in couple), fixed to wall, and it has really really low pressure and could do with unblocking the head holes (didn't feel that clean after a shower). The bed was hard and uncomfortable for both of us. There was no food storage area although and oven and dinning table were in our room. Also we had to walk past a guest who was smoking outside his room and the laundry to get to our room upstairs. I thought was overpriced for what it was considering sleep and showering are really important to us.

Good location but dated rooms

Reviewed By lorna m

This motel is in a good location. The ownerJon is very nice and accommodating. The large studio room we were allocated was dated and had a shower cubicle with a shower curtain which was disappointing given the money we paid. We mentioned the issues with the room and were easily moved to another room. The room details say a queen bed is in the studio but it was only double bed which was not home from home. It was small and for us uncomfortable. If you prefer no caffeine then take your own For shower facilities such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel take your own as the very small sachets provided are inadequate

Hospitality Like Visiting an Old Friend

We stayed with Avner for five nights in early 2020. The combination of the stunning view of Nelson Bay and his marvellous and very personal hospitality gave us a perfect start to our New Zealand holiday and made us feel like we were visiting an old friend. Avner's advice on local restaurants and attractions was extremely helpful and his home grown tomatoes, home-made bread and local honey made breakfasts a treat. B&B at its best!

Baywick Inn

Located in a quiet garden setting along the Maitai River in downtown Nelson city, this modern' VictorianCottage' B&B offers 1 enchanting room, genuine Kiwi/Canadian hospitality and fabulous gourmet breakfasts. After 21 years in the 'big house' at 51 Domett we downsized to our cottage at 52 Domett Street, but enjoy B&B so much that we are only semi retired. Our home is designed to be environmentally friendly, faces north allowing the guests to enjoy the morning sun through their French doors which opens to their private patio. Canadian Chef, Janet Southwick ensures that breakfasts are always a treat with blueberry baked French toast, specialty omelettes and frittatas.

Delightful place to stay.

A delightful place to stay. The bedroom is between the bathroom and a small kitchen/living room space and the unit was given unobtrusive housekeeping each day. We had 4 nights here and really appreciated the quietness and cozy environment. The hosts were helpful, friendly, and unobtrusive, and very obliging with providing some extra kitchen utensils that we asked for. The breakfasts were yummy! We thoroughly recommend Baywick Inn and will stay here again when next in Nelson.

Joya Garden & Villa Studios

Unique property and ideal for the discerning, eco-minded traveller: Situated in a quiet, upmarket area of central Nelson, Joya comprises a ground floor studio apartment in a three story heritage villa and a log studio - with grass roof - set in gardens with various water features. Both studios are self-contained. An optional organic breakfast can be served in the villa or on its main deck, which has a view of the city. Extensive in-and outdoor living from both studios. All water to the property passes through a filtering system for chlorine free drinking and bathing. For those staying in the villa itself breakfast is included in the rates. The Villa Room - with balcony - as well as the Den - are on the top floor. They are good value for money rooms but do not have an ensuite. Joya has had consistent top ratings for several years. Great hospitality, great location!

I'm definitely going back

Reviewed By NicolaO375

What a divine setting for such a unique (studio) stay. It's about as far as one can get from those impersonal motel units. The garden is exquisite and the host friendly and helpful. Even the view from the side windows is lovely, and it's on a nice quiet street. I'm going to rebook but for longer next time.
