We stayed two nights here, organised by Sundowners Overland as part of our independent Trans Mongolian trip. It's up a steep local road which gives you a sense of local life. It is a very welcoming place run by a family and Baikal Complex tour company. There is always tea, coffee and biscuits available in the dining room / reception area. The food is very good. Irina and Maria are very hospitable and happy to help you pronounce Russian and organise taxis. We had a lower room opening out on to a verandah which looks out at a hill covered in beautiful autumn trees. Those who had upper rooms got views of Lake Baikal. Laundry is done promptly and economically. We loved staying here!

Galina's Homestay is actually 3 flats. She has 3-4 double rooms in her own home flat which is in the basement of an old, traditional wooden house and 2 renovated flats in the neighbouring block of flats. Dont expect luxury, Galina's flat looks a bit claustrophobic and the other 2 flats' staircase is disappointing, but the flats themselves are excellent, well equipped. Galina probably opened the first guesthouse in Irkutsk (or in all Siberia) and she is experinced with the wishes of her guests, She has the only home made food deposit (under her kitchen) for the World War III. She only uses home made food, or freshly from the market, cooking and caring you like mom at home. She is hard of hearing, so please talk to her loudly. Speaks good German and some English. Recommanded!

The good points about this stay near Lake Baikal were firstly the excellent service provided by the owners who spoke English fairly well and were very accommodating. They provided a taxi service into Lysvyanka for 200r and to Irkutsk for 2000r a useful laundry service and basic meals. The hotel was uniquely decorated with a million interesting items. There was a lovely balcony in a silver birch wood. The downside for us was the sharing of bath and toilet facilities (we did know about this so our fault) poor sound insulation and we like a more minimalist set up. Also the walk to Lysvyanka took about an hour minimum.

The rooms are not large or well-decorated, but they are very comfortable. The management really go out of their way to make your stay more enjoyable. It's all in the details --- breakfast brought right to your room (!), staff doing whatever they can to help you (despite speaking no English). The price is extremely reasonable, and overall I would definitely recommend this hotel. The only thing worth noting is the location. The city center is a good 20 minutes walk away, and the surroundings have pretty much nothing of interest. When it's -30 outside, you may want to take this into consideration!

Staff is very rude and unhelpful! Really the worst service I have experienced so far in Russia. The location is not convenient either and we found that there were much better options for way less money. The bathroom was very badly made. The language barrier was very bad to the extent that they told us that some services were included in the fare that ended up costing us more in the end without notice. We are really disappointed and would advice you to not stay here!
