Amberlea cottages a great place to stay in Hokitika

Reviewed By dulcie164

My friend and I stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage at Amberlea before starting the Wilderness Trail. It was a lovely place to stay. Very comfortable and clean with everything we could possibly need. Great location with a nice walk into town to restaurants or the beach. The owner who was mowing his lawns was very friendly and helpful with local knowledge.

Exceptional comfort

Reviewed By DublinBrenda

Our one night at Awatuna Sunset Lodge was at the very end of our 11 day tour of the South Island, and we only wish we had come earlier and stayed much longer. This is our most outstanding memory of the whole trip - the warmth of the welcome, the comfort of our lodging, the peace and beauty of the location, and the amazing home cooked cuisine. Elizabeth and Selwyn open their home and their hearts to their guests, starting with sundown drinks and canapés, followed by a home cooked meal by Elizabeth, masterfully prepared with ingredients from their own garden or locally sourced. The hot tub in the garden overlooking the Tasman Sea at sunset is a special luxury. Overall, our time here was exceptionally peaceful, relaxing and comfortable, and our warmest memory of our time in New Zealand.

Old-school Hotel + Old-school Hospitality

Reviewed By Shane_Adcock

Great hotel with tidy and comfortable rooms and nice shared kitchen for people staying. Plus a fantastic Sunday Roast! Best part though was the west coast hospitality - from both the people working and the locals themselves. Only possible downside was it is close to the road and so noise could be an issue, I did have earplugs though so I was all good.

Woodstock Hotel

A very pleasant surprise

Reviewed By Dona S

We booked at short notice while wandering around Hokitika, and were a little startled when we arrived to find the units were in a pub carpark - and there was no signage - it has been ordered. However, when we checked in, t was to find lovely modern units with plenty of space and everything we needed. Price was excellent and even included unlimited wifi and Netflix. The only thing missing was a couch or some form of more comfortable seating. Still, we had a very pleasant stay, with great advice on places to visit. We had supper at the pub twice and were well fed and watered. The pub has its own microbrewery as well as the standard offerings, and there was live music on Friday evening. Despite the positioning there was no noise from the pub or the road, there was ample hot water and a very comfy bed. Ideal for a stopover, it is about 6kms outside Hoitika. We would definitely stay again. Only caution would be to park the car at the end of the units rather than in front - some of the pub patrons seemed to think they were on a race track as they came in and left. There is plenty of space.

Relaxing and most pleasant rural stay above Hokitika

Reviewed By Aklnz2018

We were welcomed by the friendly, obliging host who lives onsite. Our studio room was spacious, light, modern, well maintained, with tasteful quality decor and spotlessly clean. The view from the unit is relaxing and calming. Alpacas, cows and sheep are visible from the unit with the Tasman Sea in the distance. The sunsets were magnificent. An onsite restaurant provides a range of dishes with generous portions. This is high recommended high quality accommodation.

Superb B&B with unique history

Reviewed By robincapper

After a recommendation from Cycle Journeys I stayed at Teichelmann's B&B while riding the West Coast Wilderness Trail with them. Stayed with CJ mid-tour and made my own booking for nights before & after. It is a lovely heritage home, former doctors residence, in the middle of Hokitika on a quiet street near the river. This means everything is within walking distance, including the CJ depot, on-street parking outside, and a great café/restaurant next door. Had a lovely room with ensuite bathroom (as all are) and started the day with a superb home-made continental or cooked breakfast in the dining room. Frances & Brian are wonderful hosts and were very accommodating. The heritage house and Dr Teichelmann's history add a further unique dimension to a lovely place to stay.
