The 10 best Bed and Breakfast Inns in Far Eastern District, Russia

May 10, 2023 Milan Banda

Far East Russia is a world apart from the country’s west – almost literally, lying thousands of miles and many time zones away from it. A huge area with rugged mountains and spectacular Pacific Ocean coastline, Far East Russia borders China and North Korea on its south and nearly touches the United States to the northeast. Cities like Vladivostok and Khabarovsk are here, but the glorious natural wonders (like the volcanoes and national parks of the Kamchatka Peninsula) are what draw many.

Cozy, Comfortable and Excellent Service

I would absolutely recommend anyone staying or transiting through Magadan to stay at the Golden House. The rooms are clean, quiet and reasonable quality. The rooms do feel large but bathrooms are a little cosy. The hot water can take some time to come through but once it does there is no issue. The cafe upstairs (3rd floor) has very fine food and due to this, expect a slight wait for each dish. There is a nightclub below the hotel but don't expect any noise pollution from the music or people spilling into the street at closing. It's super quiet. The staff at reception are very accommodating and friendly. A very special mention to Evgenia at reception. She is world class, warm and welcoming and always willing to assist. The best personal service I have ever seen in Russia. After difficult travel with long delays, she was exceptional to deal with, very polite and easy to talk to. Her English ability is outstanding. Thank you for the hospitality

Learn some Russian phrases to chat with Reception, their Englush varies from person to person. Book in advance: it is a really small hotel. Enjoy Kamchatka.

Bed & Breakfast BRAVO, Yakutsk, Russia.

Reviewed By Kanbaatar

The Bed & Breakfast BRAVO here in Yakutsk, Russian Siberia, is one excellent Hostel / Bed & Breakfast. I had a bit of trouble finding the property. A friend, who lives here in Yakutsk, drove me to the (I now know in 20-20 hindsight) correct street and to the correct building BUT there are NO prominent exterior markings for the Bed & Breakfast BRAVO. None. Zero. Zip. De Nada. NO signs or other exterior identifications. So we drove away. My friend did some online research and found a phone number for the Bed & Breakfast BRAVO and, with their explicit directions, we returned to the precise location we had just visited. Now knowing where to go and what to do, we knew what buttons to push on the door opening device and in we went. The staff are absolutely superb, they are beyond excellent. English was no issue. The property is immaculate and comfortable and welcoming. The rooms are clean, neat, spartan, and have a mini-refrigerator and other necessities. The rest rooms are equally spartan and excellent. You cannot go too far wrong staying here at the Bed & Breakfast BRAVO.

Nice Campus-Hotel Without Decent Breakfast

Reviewed By Soellner

As there is not yet a review in English for this hotel, I decided to leave some comments which might be useful for non Russian speaking travellers. In July 2018 I spent one week in the Hotel No. 3 on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University on Russian Island near Vladivostok. It is one of the five highest-rated Hotels on campus (there are lower hotel categories, too) and owned and operated by the university. It is rather big, with more than 200 rooms. There are three room categories: regular room, regular suite and presidential suite. The latter is in a category of its own: It is huge, luxuriously appointed and priced over the top. The regular rooms are, well, regular. Regular suites have a sitting room separate from the bedroom. They face the campus and have a nice view of the park-like surroundings but only from the regular rooms (and, of course, from the presidential suite) you have a view of the sea. I chose a regular room - and the missing sea view was no problem since it was raining or foggy or both for most of my stay. My suite was decently and adequately furnished (TV, mini fridge, free wifi). The condition of the room was good, as the hotel is only about five years old. There certainly is no luxury but I did not expect that anyway. What I did expect, though, was a good night's sleep which was hard to get. In my room there was a constant noise from, I presume, some ventilation or heating unit on the roof which did not matter much during the day, but turned out to be very disturbing during the night. I do not know whether my room was the only one affected on the top floor and I think on lower floors this should not be much of a problem. In any case, if you are at all sensitive to noise, it is a good idea to bring some ear plugs (which, by the way, is a good idea in any hotel!). This is all the more a pity since, otherwise, the place is very quiet and you will hear nothing from the roads outside (only buses, service vehicles and taxis use them). There is no air conditioning, only ventilation (no matter how you set the controls, cool and dry air was not produced). In the room, there are four or five complementary bottles of water which are replaced every day. The maid did her work very well, no reason to complain here. Down at the reception, people were friendly and trying to be helpful - if only they could understand you! Of the hotel staff, there are one or two who speak English well, one or two who speak it haltingly, and the rest do not speak it at all. So, whether you can get help depends very much on whom you happen to speak to. The big downside of this place, and the reason for its getting three instead of four stars, is the breakfast - or, rather, the lack thereof. The hotel offers only accommodation, no breakfast (nor, for that matter, other meals). There is a cafeteria on the ground floor where you can get breakfast (and other meals) from 8:00 to 22:00, but neither the food nor the atmosphere are in any way enjoyable. It is a self-service place (whch in itself would not be a problem) and the choice for breakfast boils down to either something very sugary or something very fat. In both cases it is warm food (except for a very limited selection of extremely sugary pastries) - such as omelettes, pancakes, eggs and sausages (even to look at the latter will make your arteries clog!). Everything you would expect from a decent breakfast is absent - bread, breadrolls, jam, cheese, ham, butter, yoghurt, fruit, muesli, cereals... You can get coffee from the "coffee bar". I tried the cappuccino which was drinkable but not at all what you would expect (basically, it did not tast of coffee but only of milk). After breakfast, they serve different dishes, most of them warm (with the exception of some pre-portioned salads). They offer, e.g., rice with vegetables, grilled vegetables, different soups, some kind of schnitzel, some kind of fried fish. It is okay and it will feed you, but, again, nothing you will enjoy very much. You cannot even get some beer with which to wash it all down, because the sale of alcoholic beveredges is prohibited on campus. The staff, of course, does not speak English. The same goes for the staff of the mini markets nearby. If you are lucky, you can get hold of an English speaking student who might help you to identify the goods on offer. These mini markets are called 7/24 (or something like that), although they are certainly not open around the clock. Some open at 8:00, others at 10:00. The selection of goods is more or less the same in each mini market, but some may have run out of one thing and some may have run out of the other thing. Therefore, you might have to shop around a little bit. They have things like fresh fruit, pure juice and natural yoghurt, but the selection is very limited and you have to look very carefully in order not to buy some of the sugary stuff accidentally. As I alluded to above, they do not sell alcohol in any form. Unfortunately, though there are a lot of places where you can get something to eat, there is no decent restaurant on the campus. Therefore, you will have to go to Vladivostok (about half an hour by taxi, which will cost you about 500 Rubles); I would recommend Zuma, where you can get very good seafood at reasonable prices and where the staff speak English (it is a tourist place, of course, where you can find many Chinese and Koreans). What else is there to say? In front of the hotel there is a stadium and several sports fields which are open to, basically, everyone. So, you may bring your running shoes and run a couple of laps sometimes. But keep your eyes to the ground! This being Russia, the surface of the running track is already, although it is only about five years old, in a bad shape in places and ought to be redone. Next to the sports fields there is a beautiful and well kept park which reaches down to the sea and the beach. Not only can you stretch your legs there, you can also take longer walks. But do not, under no circumstances, get into the water: There is a major shipping lane just one mile off the coast, upstream there is some heavy industry and somewhere near, I have been told, they were wont to "decommission" old ships by sinking them. Locals do get into the water but, then again, there is a reason why Russian life expectancy is so low.
