My wife and I, however, were looking for a place to escape from the cold Canadian February weather which is not a typical destination for "snow birds" such as Florida or Arizona. For the past two Februarys we spent almost a month on Isabela Island, the largest island in the Galapagos Islands. For a change, and loving the Pacific Ocean, we found the town of El Valle, on the Pacific Coast, in the Choco District of Colombia.y Despite having visited Colombia 4 or 5 times in the past and having spent almost 2 months in total in the Galapagos Islands, our knowledge of the Spanish language is negligible, so a working knowledge of English by our hosts was also one of our criteria. El Morrow Hosteria fit all our requirements perfectly. On our arrival, as we approached El Morrow by taxi (actually a tuk tuk, a 3 wheeled covered modified motorcycle) from the airport, to our delight, we could hear the roar of the Pacific Ocean. El Morrow is perched on a hill looking over the Pacific Ocean at the south end of a wide beach. The three guest rooms and the dining area have splendid views of the Pacific Ocean and beach. Of all the places on El Almejal beach, El Morrow is the closest to the town of El Valle, a 10 to 15 minute walk away, even shorter by tuk tuk. The best of both worlds Immediate access to the beach and the warm Pacific Ocean (the ocean was very comfortable when we were there this past February) and a short distance to the restaurants (there are also a handful of decent restaurants on the beach), bakeries, convenience stores and other small shops in town. Our hosts, Monica and Jupi, speek English impeccably. Monica is from Columbia and Jupi is from Brazil, but both spent a considerable time in or around New York City, where we learned they met. I even detected a bit of a New York accent from Jupi. We are not your typical tourists of El Valle. We stayed just a few days short of 4 weeks at El Morro! Our hosts, Monica and Jupi were wonderful. They made us really feel at home in their home, which included their dog, Luna, and a few cats, including two kittens which had been left on their door step a week before we arrived. Monica and Jupi arranged for our arrival and departure to and from the airport as well as day trips to the surrounding area, with reputable tour guides who were both knowledgeable and professional. They are sensitive to the local environment and sensitive to the local economy. The Choco District of Colombia is one of the poorest regions in Colombia. At one point, they also offered dinner (in addition to the excellent breakfast still included in this true bed and breakfast - fresh fruit, fruit juice, eggs, granola, and coffee (the latter available most of the day)) to their guests and other tourists to El Valle, but discounted this, in part at least, to support the many local small restaurants. In the eating area, there is a book setting out useful information, such as the hours for breakfast, the price of beer, soft drinks, water, etc in the fridge, suggested tours and recommended restaurants. One restaurant, where we had one of our nicest meal, also twice the price of any other restaurant we experienced in El Valle, is not on the list of recommended restaurants. We suspect the restaurant is missing from the recommended list because it is part of a resort which combines meals from the restaurant with accommodation at the resort, so that guests at the resort don't have the need to support the many local restaurants. All and all a wonderful, almost month, at El Morro Hosteria.

You can meet a lot of animals there (frogs, snakes, insects of all sorts) and Don Rodrigo will gladly tell you which kind it is, naming it by its latin name! Pretty impressive! Thanks a lot again!

Reviewed By bgmeadow80Often when you travel to a place, the second time is a bit of a letdown. That is NOT the case here! The second trip was just as amazing as the first. If I could put 10 out of 5 stars, I would. Bar none, this is the most incredible place to stay! From the kindest staff who treats you like family, to the 5-star meals, Mecana eco hotel is utterly amazing. At night, you'll sleep to the sound of waves, palm trees, and the rainforest. In the morning, you'll sip coffee while watching the local birds zip between branches. And at every point in the day, you'll be deeply thankful to be at the lodge. Cannot recommend this heavenly gem enough.

Reviewed By KtaKtikEl hostal se encuentra en la playa de Huina para mi la mejor porque la playa es limpia y el mar es en calma parece piscina y con aguas cálidas. El anfitrión Adrián aplica muy bien el lema del hostal " mi casa es tu casa" y realmente te hace sentir en la casa de un amigo, siempre dispuesto, alegre y disponible. Ir allá es desconectar 100% de la ciudad. Cuenta con wifi gratis pero la señal es pésima y no hay t.v pero tampoco te daría tiempo. La comida es muy casera todos los días varía y también venden paquetes de papitas, cerveza y gaseosa para comer entre horas. Hay planes buenísimos y cada uno es más bonito y emocionante que el anterior. Caretear,bucear, largas caminatas para llegar a paraísos escondidos son algunos ejemplos. No dejen de ir a Nabugá, Utria, el Valle a ver las tortugas ir al mar por primera vez o avistar las ballenas y delfines en alta mar. Recomendacion: no olvides tus zapatos de caminar dentro del mar o por algunas selvas lluviosas con pantano y vestido de baño o camisa que cubra tus hombros y brazos por que el sol no da piedad. No lleven nada de tela de jean jamás se seca la ropa, todo tiene que ser muy Delgado de secado rápido. Las habitaciones no son lujosas pero si son cómodas. Algunas tiene baño privado y funciona muy bien. Para mi el Hostal fue un acierto

Cabañas nuevas y bien equipadas con todo lo necesario para sentirse cómodo y a gusto. Ubicadas frente a la playa y cercanas al pueblo. Buena cocina con productos frescos locales, con rica sazón. Las vistas desde la terraza donde se sirven las comidas, son increíbles. André y Milena son unos grandes anfitriones, ayudando a organizar las actividades de recreo con la comunidad. Avistamiento de ballenas, liberación de tortugas, visita a la cascada de El Tigre, recorrido por el río Tundó, son alguna de las que se pueden realizar. Todo lo que necesitas para pasar unos días estupendos.
