March 30, 2022 Yuk Petri

Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō, literally "Northern Sea Circuit") (Japanese: [hokkaꜜidoː] ( listen)), formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso, is the second largest island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. The Tsugaru Strait separates Hokkaido from Honshu. The two islands are connected by the undersea railway Seikan Tunnel. The largest city on Hokkaido is its capital, Sapporo, which is also its only ordinance-designated city. About 43 km north of Hokkaido lies Sakhalin Island, Russia, whereas to its east and north-east are the disputed Kuril Islands.

The Sappora Dome was built in 2001. It has a capacity of around 40,000 people. Following Dr Clarke, who said "Boys, be ambitious," is it is a major sporting facility that can function even when it is cold outside. It is home ground for two major sporting teams, the Nippon Ham Fighters (baseball) and Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo (Association football- -- soccer). It is a planned venue for soccer in the 2021 Olympics.

Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium

Reviewed By Instafe - Geelong, Australia

We were unsure what to expect when we booked a cab to take us to this venue but very pleasantly surprised on arrival. This massive ski jump must be seen to be believed. Looking up to the top, it is apparent that this sporting event is for extreme skier and definitely not the faint hearted. Really enjoyed the chair lift ride up to the top, despite it being seriously cold and snowing at the time. At the top, looking down the ski jump gave you even more perspective on what these elite sports men and women do. They must have nerves of steel!!! Then to warm up, we went to the museum. This interactive facility was so much fun. Including testing your skills as a ski jumper, bob sledder and ice skater. None of which I will be taking up any time soon based on my results on the simulators!!!
