Darren's input made the difference for a group of 4 enthustiastic hikers that took on Mafadi, Drakensberg during December 2020. Even although the group didn't go with Darren, he made sure our team was well equipped with route plans, conditioning and training plans, etc. Darren's love for the mountains is contagious and he was really a great sport sharing from his experiences and in entertaining all our questions and sharing his expert advise. The input Darren gave us on meal plans, gear plans, travel plans was highly appreciated. The trip would not have been a success without Darren. Unfortunately, I had to pull out of the trip on the morning we were set to head to the berg, but hearing first hand from the experience of my friends, if you are going to the berg , tackling any sizeable peak or range you don't want to tackle it without Darren, or at least first calling him!

I highly recommend this tour. Norman, my guide for the day, came to the hotel to pick me up. We drove to the Apartheid museum where he left me inside to explore. 2.5 hours later we met outside and were on our way to Soweto. Touring the various neighborhoods in Soweto gave me a great overall view of the area. We stopped at the Hector Peterson memorial and then at the Mandela house. At the end, Norman drove me back to the hotel. Norman was a very charming guide and very knowledgeable of the history of the area.

This tour is private with just you and your guide in the vehicle. To the west of Johannesburg where the Highveld starts its descent to the Bushveld from the lies, an area of undulating hills referred to as the Cradle of Humankind. It gains its name from the huge amounts of fossil remains of early man and our more apelike ancestors discovered here in the dolomite caves just beneath its surface. The geology of the region has made it one of the richest fossil-bearing regions in the world not just of early ape-men but many other extinct creatures. Sterkfontein Caves are where the original discoveries were made and it is here we make first stop. The modern interpretive centre has replicas of the fossils and an in-depth description of their relevance to mankind's family tree as well as fossils of other species. You are taken down into the caves by the resident cave guide. There is some low bending, but for the main part the caves are spacious but a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Depart from your hotel in Johannesburg to The Cradle of Humankind and Maropeng to discover many hominid and other animal fossils, dating back more than 4-million years, to the birth of humanity. The most important and most famous of these fossils are “Mrs Ples”, a 2.1-million-year-old Australopithecus skull, and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton that is more than 3-million years old. These fossils, both found in the Sterkfontein Caves in the Cradle of Humankind, tell us much about the precursors of modern humans, Homo sapiens. With a Guide, you will be able to go underground tour. The scientific exhibition centre showcases a reconstruction of a mined cave (versus a pristine cave), cave formations and geology, early life forms, mammals and hominid fossils. It describes in detail important finds such as “Mrs Ples”, the “Taung Child” and “Little Foot”, as well as providing information about fossilization, palaeobotany and landscapes.

My boyfriend and I did all our tours with Nic from Africa Moja Tours & Transfers-Cradle of Human Kind, Lesedi, Soweto, and Pretoria. We were very nervous booking tours as it was all last minute and we did not have a lot of time to research. However, our first day went so great with Nic that we booked another day. He is a very safe driver, incredibly knowledgeable and smart, and a great person to hang out with while touring the area. Nic and the tours were truly one of the highlights of our three week trip in South Africa and I would highly recommend using this company and Nic for your tours. I am so grateful we had an incredible experience on our first time visiting.

Stephen was the BEST tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the animals & the park itself. We had a very fun small group & were able to see many different types of animals. Stephen provided us with extra perks like the Lion & Wild dog feedings and the Wonder Mine. The Wonder Mine was an unexpected occurance I didn’t know I had been missing! It was beautiful and unreal. Everything about the day was great; from the giraffe and Springbok, to the baby warthogs (so adorable) and the wildebeest! Every single part of this trip was nothing short of amazing! Thank you Stephen for your warm smile and knowledge of the park, animals, & Jozi in general. I will definitely share your info with my travel group!
