So after a 2 hour journey from the airport we arrived at the Royalton. All looked good and we were exhausted after a long journey but we had to get in quite a big queue to get our room details, when we reached reception we were told we had to pay 200USD as a holding fee for any damage and 168USD visitors tax, we were never told about the 200USD holding fee and was told the visiting tax would be a couple of dollars a day! When getting to the room which was quite a walk away we were pleasantly surprised, it was very large, 2 big beds and a whirlpool bath, nice balcony and quite nice views and a lovely shower. But the following days things were not so good. Every day various spirits were unavailable, when speaking to our rep we were assured the issue would be resolved, it never was and became very frustrating. In the room we were supplied with a coffee percolator which was lovely but you need a plug adapter to work it, I went to reception 3 days running to get the adapter, the 3rd day it arrived. We were locked out of our room for 3 days, having to keep walking g back to reception to report it. After 3 days it was resolved. The down escalator was not working on arrival and was still not working on departure, we were able to walk up and down it while not working which was quite dangerous. On both the up and down escalators the hand rail was totally worn off. The long pool close to the beach was dirty and had tiles missing which you could easily have cut your feet on. The 5 restaurants you didn't have to book for apart from one but we were hardly ever able to walk in and sit down as there was 6 of us, it seems larger than 4 people are not catered for unless you eat early. On a plus note, the food was nice, quite a good selection, 99.9% of staff were lovely, especially Kim in the Mexican and Rodney in the Steak House. The rooms are cleaned daily, altho sometimes you would get 2 towels the next 4 so a bit weird. The beds are really comfortable and the air con is good, altho don't leave it off as the room gets damp. We felt the location was quite isolated, there was no where to walk to, no bars or other restaurants so if you like a walk out this is not the place for you. Some people may think my comments are trivial but we saved hard for this very expensive holiday, over £4000 for 2 of us, we were quite disappointed with the hotel. Definitely not 5☆ as advertised.

Great Family Vacation

Reviewed By clevertravelers

Pros and Cons to this resort but overall, we had a wonderful family vacation. We just returned from a 7-night stay with 6 adults (4 of whom were in their early twenties). We had a beachfront in the 500 block with a lovely water's edge view. Sunsets on this resort are to die for. Don't miss them! Bedding was new and comfortable. Room was clean, location was quiet and while not fancy, was not outdated. Our children had rooms in the 200 building which were definitely more dated but fine for them and backed to tennis/fitness center which we all enjoyed. You know when reserving that this type of resort is not a Ritz-Carlton and you shouldn't expect it to be. Only two restaurants open a night was disappointing, but they rotate through 5/6 restaurants throughout the week and provide the schedule in advance. The food was fresh (with the exception of a few desserts), well-prepared and there was good variety and something for everyone. We loved all of the traditional island cuisine! The new owner (Secrets) should keep this staff. Management was ever-present, staff mostly friendly, very hard-working and very attentive. Some even took the time to learn our names and greet us personally each day. We always try to do the same when traveling. There is plenty to do all day, every day and no one was ever bored. They provide a schedule of activities and off-resort tours at their recommended orientation. The water sports are ALL ALL-included which is rare for these types of resorts. The water sports staff was fantastic - good teachers, always upbeat and patient with people! Pros: Plenty of activities to do at this resort. Fun scheduled activities as well (yoga, mixology, volleyball - too many to list); Joy Cruise is a must. Mr. Joy, family and staff are very warm and capable and the trip refreshing (he even came up to our van to bid us farewell); Fresh, well-prepared meals - even vegetarian options; Piano (talent!) and meal at Le Jardin were perfect for a quieter, romantic evening; Currently not at capacity so easy to get loungers at beach/pool and get drinks at the bars (try the Red Door bar...); Grounds are well-maintained and clean; Some good DJ nights, karaoke and live guitar music. Cons: Some rooms are dated (ask for beach front 500 building); Drinks could most definitely be stronger so ask for a double or floaters (or go to the Jacaranda at night); Snack bar offerings were disappointing (but open early til late). Recommendations: Use only resort-sanctioned excursions. They tell you this at orientation, which you should attend anywhere you go! Be friendly and appreciative. If you are able to vacation, you are fortunate! Entitled people don't fare well anywhere.

Really nice relaxing week

Reviewed By Lizzylazyway

We stayed here for one week in early May and our first holiday in nearly 3 years. We were upgraded to a suite which was absolutely huge and such a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was very good, nice to eat at the Naked Fisherman although the 92 steps down and back up was a bit off putting. We understand that in September they are doing some refurbishment and this will make quite a difference as although everything was spotless it was a little tired. Having said that we would recommend going there and certainly really enjoyed our holiday.

Great Holiday!!

Reviewed By Paularichards75

On arriving at the Soco Hotel we were welcomed with a rum punch and a nice 155ec community tax which we wasn't told about! Nevertheless reception was bright and spotlessly clean. We were taken to our room which was also clean. Little things like mirrors and sockets need to be assessed, having sockets one end of the room and mirror the other side don't really work. We didn't unpack straight away because we needed a drink because of the 145min transfer from airport, bar area was clean, drinks were plentiful... Some bar staff need to brush up on their social skills (Marlon). Bianca, Warner and Elijah were great!!!! Bianca.. The Purple Rain was amazing ? ?. Restaurant staff were the best, Eloise was very entertaining, if I was manager and your reading this.....give her a bar or front of house job!!!! Service is a little slow in restaurant but everything is cooked fresh and looked very presentable. Didn't feel the need to complain though. Pool could do with a deep clean, though it wasn't bad. Only thing that let's the Soco down is lack of sunbeds. We went to the beach once, but sunbeds were really tired and parasols didn't offer much shade. Cabanas, far too many of them being unused as they were charging 135us a day, something that should charged for if all Inc. And may I add... We met some really friendly and amazing people which some we have kept in touch with. Overall great holiday, great weather, great people!!!! Paula ❤️
