Overall the experience in this restaurant was only average - and well short of expectation. We came for dinner with a party of eight and were hoping for a memorable culinary experience. And the looks of the dishes were very good & promising - Everything looked well and cautiously prepared, with attention to detail. The taste, however, could not keep up:The ‘Beef Rosini with foie gras from Irish beef with truffled mashed potatoes’ was good, but not impressive. The same applied to some of the other mains. For desert, the ‘Chocolate brownie with pecans and pistachio ice’ was a small disappointment. What did live up to the promise was the ‘Beef Tartar & the Irish natural beef fillet with quail egg Styrian pumpkin seed oil cream’ as starter. What was not meeting expectations at all was the service - there was clearly a shortage in service personnel and those that were there were not (or did not have the time to be) attentive. The food did not arrive at the same time for all of us Used glasses and side plates would not be cleared - even after we kindly asked them to be cleared to have a little more space. The wine list looks highly promising - However, when we ordered a specific bottle from a very good year, it first took about 15 minutes before it arrived - and was then from a different year (which was significantly worse in the area of origin). All in all our visit did not turn out to be the memorable culinary experience we had hoped for, but an ‘ok’ and average food experience with - given the ambition and the price levels of this restaurant - insufficient service.

We enjoyed eating at Wintergarten so much that we went three times during our week long stay in Schladming in February. Between us we tried a number of dishes. The zander fillet with vegetables was fantastic, I had this dish twice because the fish was really well cooked and it’s serviced with an abundance of vegetables which is so rare in Austria. My fiancé had the pork wiener schnitzel which was a great example of this dish, not greasy at all, albeit rather large, however he missed having any vegetables with it which would have been a nice addition. I also tried the chicken wok, which was fantastic with a flavoursome oriental sauce and was once again served with plenty of vegetables. All our dishes were served fresh and piping hot. There’s not a huge selection of desserts but we particularly enjoyed the apple strudel, the brownie not so much, as it was quite basic. The house wine is pleasant and competitively priced, getting glasses of tap water wasn’t a problem, and the dishes all represent really good value for the quality of the food served. The service was great, on each occasion we were served by a Romanian lady called Enne (I will have spelt that incorrectly), who was lovely and couldn’t have done more to make our visit more pleasant. Overall we highly recommend choosing this restaurant if you are in Schladming, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
