Neanderthals - Health Deli

Very impressed to see this quite up market cafe/deli but then Norton High Street is both stylish and unusually rural in an otherwise depressed North East industrial area. Plenty of trees in the area. A great coffee for me and a healthy green concoction for the wife!

Fish batter soggy and greasy we ordered captain table large fish when it came there was two pieces of fish on each plate, which the waitress said they did not have the ones we ordered!why take the order! When we cut it open the grease was awful and there was soggy batter mix inside. We peeled the batter off and put it on a spare plate the fish also was very thin and small(we thought it was Whiting!)We did mention about the batter to the waitress but nobody came out to see us.I would be doubtful if it was butter on the bread was actually butter. It did not look or tasted like butter. We paid our full bill of £18.00for two meals. We have eaten many times at Barnacles Stockton and Yarm and have never had any complaints as to the beautiful fish & chips so this Billingham Barnacles was a big disappointment.

This simple chip shop is intertwined with my personal history. I used to live close by as did my grandmother. In that way it is linked to my childhood and forever known within my family as "Nana's Chippy". The chips are good, the staff friendly and experienced. The only shame is that it is sometimes intimidating getting to with the occasional group of schoolkids outside.
